does it really matter if it comes from him or a health pro? I’d personally prefer to hear it from someone who knows what they’re on about.

I think there’s a lack of leadership in all of this.

Seems a fragmented approach across our society.

A health professional I’ve spoken to gave an opinion that sides with @Casino

Can only report what I read in Lancet, age seems a huge factor. Of course other illnesses are risk factors, but you only need look at reported death percentages by age range in China. 20-40 is 0.2%. 80 plus is 15%. 70 plus is 8%. Mild asthma according to literature isn’t a huge risk factor. But this is all initial data. It’s what is informing the government. The % death rates do for me show how aggressive this is at older ages, whereas the flu would have higher % in younger people as well as elderly.

Totally agree. I want to hear from the head honcho on a daily basis.

We live in an age where scepticism takes precedence over belief, because there’s so many lies and bollocks out there. I’m not sure what to believe so I’d rather hear our government come out and update us.

Rather hear from CMO and CSA. They are the ones who know. But we need some leadership and sadly seems a bit lacking.

Fair point but if they’re putting it out there that the elderly are the most vulnerable, and 72 year old Dave gets a cough and it’s just that but because of what’s been put out in the media, are people not going to clog up phone line and take up time in hospitals?

I think you’re right about the folk with underlying conditions should be the ones to look at self isolating

They're not supposed to call 111 until condition gets worse (if it does). Not sure that's happening.

Both my daughters have come home from Uni in Liverpool, my eldest is complaining of a sore throat and a dry cough, I just want to get the virus and get it over and done with!

We’re looking at possibly manufacturing parts for ventilators at our place, which is just bizarre but we may be able to help.

The “name your price” bit will catch enough ears I imagine.

My lads off to a sweaty gig in manc tonight

Last night he was out til 4

Proud of him

Meanwhile daughter is stuck in dubai and everythings shut

I don’t know enough about viruses to comment properly.

What I do know is that we really do need to keep working as best we can.

Turn up. Do what you do. Keep distance if needs be. It’s not that hard.

Do that, keep cash moving around and I think we can see this off.

Thats interesting

However, we are already on a catch up as folk seem to be giving us work that would normally be chinese

Steel will be the next issue though

Even if our lot dont catch netflixitis

The issue is if they all go out and end up needing critical hospital care in the same period we are fucked. And younger people may die unnecessarily. Everyone needs to do what they can here. It is shit. But there are worse things than staying in your home.

I agree that there are worse things than staying at home and many over 70’s probably spend most of their time at home anyway.

I know plenty of people in that age group though who are very active and rely on the freedom to do whatever they like to keep themselves fit both mentally and physically.  Most have worked all their lives paying into the NI system. Hearing people saying they shouldn’t complain if that don’t get NHS treatment is the most worrying thing about this whole shitstorm. Humanity is showing it’s ugly face in this crisis. Panic buying is the least of our problems.

The Government have, every day.

But I take your point that Boris should be more visible.

Absolutely. Stuff is continuously on BBC etc and will be on the web sites.

They're even publicising the models soon to illustrate the reasoning.

I can't agree that leadership is so bad- yes more TV by the top man might comfort some; but the main thing is to be managing the response.

Companies making making machines (JCB approached) and numerous measures which are continually being updated. It's inevitable that this is a 'drip feed'; it's not a graduated incident.

Steel should be ok. Our suppliers have stockpiles for several months so ok with that. Likewise, Copper is suddenly a fair bit cheaper.

Folk need to work and only skive if they really are poorly.

Losing the 70+- ers is not going to damage us too much if we crack on...

your all heart

Suppliers might not have drivers...

Funny isnt it, that one thing that we might learn out of all this is that pen pushers earning silly money actually have no more real value than truck drivers, even cleaners

No ventilators for tarquin unless rougharse mcrougharse the welder drags himself into work

Interesting times

If that’s why he’s not coming out and saying stuff then he needs to develop a thicker skin and give a fuck what people think or say about him.
People are scared to death, he’s the leader of this country and should be on the front line giving us updates and answering questions more regularly than he has been doing.
Im not disputing what he has done, he’s put actions plans in place, and for that I can’t fault him for that but answers are needed everyday because the country and world is in a crisis.

Are people really 'scared to death'

I think if they are, its time to fuck twitter and 24 hours news, right off

100%

The media have had a quick breather after Brexit and are now back to wanking themselves blind at the amount of work they have.

If this was the 90’s, it would barely register.

I’d say so. Panic buying, any little cough and people are ringing 111 thinking they’re about to croak it.
If you’re over 70 and have health issues I’d imagine you’d be pretty scared as well

A fair point, and in essence they should be treated; it's the demand that it could put on the system that could result in some being treated and others not. A huge dilemma for medical staff and one that could leave them mentally scarred.

If you've got one person who has tried their best to isolate but come a cropper (maybe via well meaning neighbour or whatever) and another who has gone about the daily routine as normal, but only one ventilator is available- ok a very specific situation, but as much as possible, it should be possible for people to isolate for a while as an altruistic gesture. Just as family/friends and neighbours should reciprocate with help with shopping etc. Even it's a chat at the doorstep or over the garden fence.

There are lots of people who have offered help in one way or another, and whilst there are the selfish buggers buying up stuff but it's not all bad.

Ireland are shutting pubs.

Thats it folks.

Luckily I have no family members who fall into the risk categories, but I do sympathise with those that do

my only panic is not getting to the algarve this summer
