That was one of the loveliest things to ever happen. Stood in my garden sobbing like a baby! Proud to work for the NHS 👏👏👏👏❤️

Aye, that's my only concern in all this

And I'm due to go June

Just can't see Greece shutting tourism down

Anyway, I'll get flights back if they aren't flying and accom is cash on arrival

Ryanair going bust is prob a bigger risk

Diesel dropping in price. Transport should be a bit cheaper. Wholesalers putting prices up. Some are going to make a nice little wedge out of this.

I had a bit of a sobering thought today. My Grandad is nearly 80, he’s having treatment for cancer and he’s had a couple of heart ops, my nan his wife is the same age but fit as a fiddle. They’ve  been together since they were 15, my Nan never needed to work, she doesn’t even drive, they’re totally dependent on each other. They live in Southport and all the family lives in Bolton, now if my grandad got taken ill because of this, I don’t think his chances would be too good, it’s only just occurred to me that my Nan might follow him in the aftermath. She may do anyways but this virus has awoken me.

Aside from that me and our Maud are supposed to be going Barcelona for our anniversary, I was supposed to be going to Oz but was going to be working the Euros, now that’s gone for a burton, i might say fuck it and give someone on heat my dollar to sort me out a holiday in Greece because lord knows they’ll need my tourism.

A fair point, and in essence they should be treated; it's the demand that it could put on the system that could result in some being treated and others not. A huge dilemma for medical staff and one that could leave them mentally scarred.

If you've got one person who has tried their best to isolate but come a cropper (maybe via well meaning neighbour or whatever) and another who has gone about the daily routine as normal, but only one ventilator is available- ok a very specific situation, but as much as possible, it should be possible for people to isolate for a while as an altruistic gesture. Just as family/friends and neighbours should reciprocate with help with shopping etc. Even it's a chat at the doorstep or over the garden fence.

There are lots of people who have offered help in one way or another, and whilst there are the selfish buggers buying up stuff but it's not all bad.

The biggest demand on hospital/emergency  services on a Friday/Saturday  night are pissed up people. This goes on 52 weeks of a normal year. No one gives a shit. We have an unprecedented health occurrence and suddenly, people who have lived their lives ‘doing the right thing’ are being targeted as  a burden to the health system.

Some of the wifes teacher colleagues are suddenly showing symptoms or partners have had “symptoms” and taking a seven day break.

See I can understand people’s worries especially with circumstances like yourself and if this isolation comes in they will need help which will put a strain elsewhere

Not a burden in that sense as it's those very people who are likely to need it, so they could affect others of the same generation.

It's merely a case of there potentially being insufficient capacity to treat them all at the same time.

As for your piss heads comment; there's been plenty of discussion on here previously. Make them pay for their treatment if it's something self inflicted!

Ireland are shutting pubs.

Thats it folks.

That country has lost the fucking plot, they need to stop following in the footsteps of the EU and embrace the UK and the position we are taking, Chuck the jocks in the same pot as well.

I reckon we'll shut pubs and restaurants in the not too distant future. Just biding our time.

Might be a good few folk improving their cooking skills.

There not shutting them as such

been asked by the government, I doubt many will

Let’s hope common sense prevails and they crack on. If your 70 plus or have health issues stay at home, the rest of us should crack on. That’s my take and I’m sticking to it.

Correct

Shutting pubs here will make the poll tax riots look like two people tutting at each other.

A whiff of pubs getting shut here and the booze aisle in Aldi will be like a royal rumble

Shut Holt’s down

most of their clientele will be in isolation

Nearly 400 new deaths in Italy today.

That’s sobering.

Spoke to my folks today

We're not going on our long caravan weekend next weekend but other than that they seem ok with it

Other than hospital appointments, which they'll get a couple of buses to, they won't plan on doing much anyway, so long as my dad can watch pointless and a war film everyday he's not arsed about going out anyway

So I'm just going to avoid them and crack on in the hope i get it sooner rather than later

Of course i may have a change of heart after a few ales and an hour of bbc24

How many football managers are over 70?

Roy Hodgson deffo must be. Be interesting if the footy starts again and he has to self isolate

I agree that there are worse things than staying at home and many over 70’s probably spend most of their time at home anyway.

I know plenty of people in that age group though who are very active and rely on the freedom to do whatever they like to keep themselves fit both mentally and physically.  Most have worked all their lives paying into the NI system. Hearing people saying they shouldn’t complain if that don’t get NHS treatment is the most worrying thing about this whole shitstorm. Humanity is showing it’s ugly face in this crisis. Panic buying is the least of our problems.

But they and anyone else should follow the advice. Whole of Italy is locked down. If it comes to that we will have to do same. It’s shit but it will end.

On another note, I was having a think about potential implications of our different strategy...

Seems we are keen for everyone to get it, sooner rather than pater so we can get back to normal (herd immunity). Whilst others are on extreme lock down looking to suppress initially then take their chances with a 2nd phase of it down the line.

Not only will it mean that we are front and centre of the whole thing very soon, but also means that we will have loads of infected people in the country for months. All these other countries won’t want anyone from the U.K. anywhere near them, could be a case that U.K. is black listed in terms of flights in and out for some time

I was thinking similar last night. Clearly we're going down a different path to most other countries, we'll either come out of this looking great......or it'll go horribly wrong and we'll end up as an international pariah

Seems to explain things quite well

Good that. Makes sense why Italy’s death rate isn’t dropping. Also makes me think that the football season hasn’t a hope in hell of starting up in two weeks time.

The advice.  Which advice? The UK government’s? Yours? The Italians? The Czechs? The Australians? The Spanish? The Experts? Etc. Etc.

Most of us have relatives who are in this age range. Surely we can all see what affect that will have on their lives.

My ire was aimed at people on here who seemed to question the rights of the over 70’s to use the NHS after a lifetime of contributions.
