That was one of the loveliest things to ever happen. Stood in my garden sobbing like a baby! Proud to work for the NHS 👏👏👏👏❤️

Fucking hell. That’s grim.

How can you expect every over 70 yr old to be quarantined for 4 months

Wow that’s a massive step forward. This thing mustn’t have even really reared its head yet based on this I wouldn’t say. This is the biggest crisis any of us will likely face in our lifetimes. Serious serious shit

Kind words gents, thank you.

My mum is the one suffering. Alone, confused and not fully aware of the outside world, she just thinks we’re ignoring her. She’s one of thousands in a similar position. It’s heartbreaking.

Whatever it takes, the world needs to see this through quickly.

Might sound a bit simplistic but get on Moonpig or whatever, upload a family photo and a ‘thinking of you’ kind of message so that she’s got a constant reminder.

My mum is 70 and is knackered health wise, my brother is in his late 40's and still lives at home with her. If she gets this she is a goner I am sure of it. She's staying at home but obviously my brother is going to work and getting the shopping in. How does this herd strategy work for my mum? It's bloody worrying.

I’m having the same thoughts about my dad. He’s 78, keeps active but has a few conditions including Parkinson’s and diabetes. We normally go out for tea on a Saturday (after the football, remember that?) but I got him round here tonight instead rather than risk mixing socially. He’s a verger at church but I’ve warned him that tomorrow is likely to be their last service for a long while. With the average age of their congregation, it must be a right melting pot for the virus.

cant get over how recently this is-

"Coronaviruses were first discovered in the 1960s. The earliest ones discovered were an infectious bronchitis virus in chickens and two in human patients with the common cold (later named human coronavirus 229E and human coronavirus OC43 "

compared to things like smallpox.

Again there seems to be a strange polarisation taking place here.

Same with global warming, Brexit, vegan etc etc

On one side you’ve the Brexiteers, meat eating, coal burning climate change deniers saying it’s all a pile of shit and there fuck all to worry about.

On the other side you’ve got the lefty leaning, vegan nonce brigade saying the worlds about to end and everybody should be wrapped in clingfilm sat in the basement.

weird how it always ends up one side against the other and it’s always the same people either side.

obvioulsy you’ve got sane people somewhere in the middle but those voices are never heard.

The only dfifference being - those that said listen to the experts 3 years ago are now saying ignore the experts.

And those saying ignore the experts 3 years ago, are now saying listen to the experts.

And then theres Mounts, at least he's consistent 😀

Do you mean the 229 leading scientists or the government experts? Because 229 have published and shown the evidence based and merely asked the government to do the same. Then they can peer review each other’s work. That’s how expertise works. That’s how theories are tested.

Nobody is questioning expertise per se. Just that it needs weighing against an increasingly large and dominant body of evidence being cited by other experts.

That ITN article has freaked me out. I’m obsessively checking sky news and bbc might delete their apps

We will be fine by and large. It's our parents who are at risk. Keep away if you can but how is that possible? How does this actually work for the elderly?

I’m not watching the news or checking social media until it’s over..... if the worlds gonna end can someone kindly let me know by posting it on here. Thx

There's a fair degree of scepticism of the experience and expertise of many of the signatories of the letter. I believe some of them are PhD students, and one of them is a professor of Modern History.

That same article also includes the paragraph below:

I see the phrase “Andrà tutto bene” has become a motto for the Italians now.

it translates as “It’ll be reet”

And it will.

We’re in France and just gone on lockdown, all the bars and restaurants closed from midnight, we now have to try and get home as eurotunnell and the ports are closed.

Wait 'til dawn, get to Dieppe docks - ask for Lucky Pierre...

1250 ff will buy you this, stock up on Les Twixe before you cast off...

In seriousness good luck getting home.
