The advice.  Which advice? The UK government’s? Yours? The Italians? The Czechs? The Australians? The Spanish? The Experts? Etc. Etc.

Most of us have relatives who are in this age range. Surely we can all see what affect that will have on their lives.

My ire was aimed at people on here who seemed to question the rights of the over 70’s to use the NHS after a lifetime of contributions.

The governments. Because that’s all we can do.

I don’t think anyone would question anyone’s rights to treatment. But the government briefed Peston that should the older and vulnerable population not take the advice and self isolate to reduce demand on NHS that they might have to withdraw all healthcare for over 65’s. That’s how stark this is.

People need to do whatever we are told. However much of an inconvenience or however unpleasant. And I’m not a fan of this government or beyond questioning their decisions on this. But ultimately if we ignore advise we risk making it worse for everyone else.

And if over 70s or anyone else refuse to do as told then frankly they risk the health of everyone. It’s a necessity now. I have some stuff that may put me in a higher risk group - I have a lot of autoimmune problems - but I don’t know. If I have to sit in my bedroom for four months as fucking horrible and unthinkable as that sounds I will do it. If I have to get on with it I will.

Its a dangerous attitude that people have - we all have to do what is required of us. If we do we will hopefully avoid being like Italy,  China or worse.....

Good that. Makes sense why Italy’s death rate isn’t dropping. Also makes me think that the football season hasn’t a hope in hell of starting up in two weeks time.

I asked my boss what are the chances I get called back into work this week. He said Nil.

I’ve questioned the rights of over 70’s to use the NHS

But only the ones who purposely ignore the government advice / Law on isolation then find themselves requiring an ICU

I’m confident most of those in the at risk group won’t be so selfish and will do the right thing by the NHS anyway so broadly irrelevant

Let’s hope common sense prevails and they crack on. If your 70 plus or have health issues stay at home, the rest of us should crack on. That’s my take and I’m sticking to it.

Aye. Mother (83) had decided its best not to do her usual Wednesday’s out for lunch with her best friend for a while. She has a touch of bronchiectasis so recognises age and an underlying condition make her vulnerable. Me and my brother and a certain poster off here happy to do her shopping for her. She’s seen worse. She contracted Polio as a young girl so understands better than most the implications. Thank god. Although it was a  tough lesson

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/mar/15/trump-offers-large-sums-for-exclusive-access-to-coronavirus-vaccine

The Trump administration has offered a German medical company “large sums of money” for exclusive access to a Covid-19 vaccine, German media have reported.

The German government is trying to fight off what it sees as an aggressive takeover bid by the US, the broadsheet Die Welt reports, citing German government circles.

The US president had offered the Tübingen-based biopharmaceutical company CureVac “large sums of money” to gain exclusive access to their work, wrote Die Welt.

According to an anonymous source quoted in the newspaper, Trump was doing everything to secure a vaccine against the coronavirus for the US, “but for the US only”.

The German government was reportedly offering its own financial incentives for the vaccine to stay in the country.

The German health minister Jens Spahn said that a takeover of the CureVac company by the Trump administration was “off the table”. CureVac would only develop vaccine “for the whole world”, Spahn said, “not for individual countries”.

Fuck it....it would be best for the world if COVID-19 did it’s thing on Trump. I don’t say that lightly. But the bloke is beyond evil. And dangerous.

If this is true then let’s add the smokers and the drinkers and the druggies and...... well you get my point. Let’s all blame Mum, Dad, Grandma, Grandad for wanting to spend their last few years in freedom at their own risk without having to worry about people like you.

People ignore government health warnings all the time. No one ever questions them at the point of treatment.

It’s not about them, and younger people will also have to self isolate. It’s about protecting the wider community. It’s about being selfless.

I find it depressing that in a national crisis, we have selfish fools panic buying, people refusing to take the government advice and basically a lack of collective spirit. It doesn’t surprise me though as these characteristics were lost from the war generations to the baby boomers. Think of society not individuals.

It’s the equivalent of someone during the blitz saying ‘fuck it I’m not sitting in the dark’ and having their neighbourhood levelled.

Hope she comes through it all and thrives hopefully a few good years in her yet, my Aunty is 93 lives on her own and still doing fine.

Out of interest, was it you going to some old uns party next week?

Has it been cancelled yet?

What about someone else's grandparents though?

That's my point; very few younger people likely to be affected, but they may be putting other old people at risk.

Additionally, lots of NHS staff being moved, if we can help reduce this demand, even just a little, then maybe care can be maintained at as high a level as possible for patients with other serious conditions.

In reality, it needs plenty of common sense and decency from all parts.

I need say no more. You’ve made yourself clear. I’ll leave it at that. Goodnight.

That was today and it went ahead even though most sensible people advised against

I guess it wouldn’t even be allowed next week, they would have cancelled it if that was the official government position to be fair

That’s the point, when it’s the official stance folk need to respect the rules, if not for themselves then for some other poor old bugger they may give it to who then dies

On that note, Austria are limiting groups to no more than 5 people now even in your house!

Saw that about Austria. Some things are just plain daft.

Are they suggesting large families should split up and some look for accommodation elsewhere?

I reckon our lot are doing pretty well.
