Maverick

According to the Mail, Maddison was in the Bolton squad to take on Barrow in a League Two game at the University of Bolton Stadium.

The 27 year-old was staying in a hotel 50 yards from the stadium, but he failed to appear at the 1.30pm meeting time.

When he did arrive sources claimed he told Bolton boss Ian Evatt he had ‘slept in.’

The problem with this attitude of Maddisons ( if true ) is that they can very quickly start to become a bad apple , other players may view his alleged not give a fuck attitude and think what's good for the Goose .

IE was well aware of his issues before he came and if this is true, he will have had them confirmed by this. I don’t see Evatt being a soft touch and I’m sure the loan agreement takes into account the possibility it may be cut short. I hope not and that Maddison buckles down but if he doesn’t then he needs to be sent packing before he damages the atmosphere within the squad.

That’s not being a maverick, that’s being a dick

If true, this on top of Jules' revelations about him being up at stupid o'clock tweeting before a game suggest he may be more hassle than he's worth.

Water under the bridge

Dealt with and we move on

Was told about this the morning of the game hotel staff had to knock him up.

Well, this is the chance for the guy to give himself a shake and knuckle down. I suspect that may be a strength of Evatt's.

If he doesn't take the chance he'll just prove a few people right.

I'd love him to settle & things click for him.

If he was staying in a hotel "50 yards from the Stadium", I presume they're talking about the Premier Inn near the train station. Is that right, or have they misunderstood that we have a hotel in the Stadium itself?

Could be wrong but I think the hotel at the stadium is a key workers only kind of arrangement, particularly with the Covid testing on the car park?

Evatts given him a chance, if Maddison decides no to make the most of it then thats him out of the door fairly sharpish.

Think he posted Instagram stuff eating with a view of the pitch. Sure he had another cooking in a hotel kitchen. Not sure an external chain would allow that.

He is staying at the stadium/whites hotel .

Can’t believe this is being talked about

^This...

Lock him in his hotel room until he agrees not to sleep in.

Who's the mole, and why?

I wouldn't even buy someone a half of mild (in 1988) for that bit of shittle-tattle.

I can't imagine Evatt suffers fools for very long.  He'll have bollocked him, made him apologise to the squad and told him he's in the last chance saloon.  The minute he starts to take the piss or impact on the squads happiness he'll be gone I reckon.

Up to him now.

His bigger issue is now after bradford Evatt seems to have a starting XI with Delfonso, Arthur and the centre forward to come on he is way down the pecking order.

Up to him to get back up there

Great having competition

That was really my point by missing the game he has gone from first choice to maybe 4th from the bench.

I don’t think it’s that he’s moved down the pecking order, just IE making the point by not putting him on. I expect him to play some part against Cambridge tomorrow, as long a he wakes up in time of course!!

You can't un-knob a knob.

It'll be worth it even if the total sum of all his contributions whilst here is just one goal or one pass that leads to a goal.

You may not be able to but a knob can un-knob himself. If he’s sleeping in until gone 1.30 then it’s a sure-fire guarantee that he’s not going to bed at a reasonable hour. 27 years old single lad living a fairly luxury life having someone cook, tidy, make beds, etc., must be bored shitless. Wasn’t Kev Nolan given the job of chaperoning Andy Carol because he had exactly the same attitude as Maddison?

Maybe our maverick needs someone to make sure he’s not a dick.

I'm struggling with that logic tbh.  If he's giving the ball away more often that not, either by misplaced passes or over ambitious shots, 1 goal doesn't balance things up.  And I'm far from anti-MM, I'd love him to succeed here, but current evidence is he's got a lot of improving to do to be picked before those currently in front of him.
