DirtySanchez Posted April 5, 2021 Posted April 5, 2021 Got dragged to see Mamma Mia which was two hours of absolute hell, or however long it lasted, as i) I hate Abba ii) I hate musicals But went along with it so I could go to Chelsea away a few weeks later. The final test of my sanity was when folk started doing the conga round the theatre, at which point I decided I'd seen enough and left Quote

Not in Crawley Posted April 5, 2021 Posted April 5, 2021 I'm not a fan of musicals, lots of people are though, and I've had a decent career out of selling them. Ones that I have enjoyed are Funny Girl, Les Mis, Girl From the North Country and 42nd Street. I think what is daft is people just going this is shit, that is shit etc without qualifying or seemingly having little experience. Be a bit more open minded, there's a big old world of things to enjoy out there. Not everything will be your cup of tea, but don't just dismiss or shit on those that do like those things just because you don't. Not every musical is mamma Mia, not every period drama is boring, not every Bronte novel is the same.... chill out people. F1 and boxing personally bore me to tears, but some people find them endlessly fascinating. I used to hate cricket but I've really changed my mind as I've got older. Quote

Girl From The North Country is the last thing I saw just before lockdown 1, fantastic. I was also extremely surprised to like Legally Blonde the musical - went with neice 2 who's planning on doing a degree in musical theatre. My favourite musical is Once More, With Feeling And I've never seen a James Bond film. Edited April 5, 2021 by Exiled Girl Posted too quickly Quote

Casino Posted April 5, 2021 Posted April 5, 2021 Second is better than the first, but we could have managed without cher Quote
Not in Crawley Posted April 5, 2021 Posted April 5, 2021 My other half worked on the ABBA exhibition at the 02, went to see Mama Mia the Party to show moral support. If you like that sort of thing, it's great. The food wasn't bad actually. Quote

MancWanderer Posted April 5, 2021 Posted April 5, 2021 Used to hate musicals with a passion. Saw Chicago in that London mid 2000’s with Darius (some reality show bloke) and it confirmed it for me. They are shite Mrs Manc booked us in to see Evita in Manc a few years ago. Fuck me. The place was full of dust. Not a dry eye in the house. Incredible. My top three gigs ever - The Specials in Belfast (2009?), AC/DC Manc Apollo 1979, New Order/The Specials/Blur Hyde Park 2012. I’d put Evita a very close 4th it really was that good Following that I saw Oliver (Neil Morrisey) and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (Jason Manford) and they were really good Evita changed it for me. Seen some stinkers mind you (Blues Brothers, Joseph, West Side Story) Quote
