I would imagine these contaminated pagers were carried by "sleepers" who had their instructions and were awaiting to carry out an October-style attack, when the Israelis got wind of an imminent mobilisation, something like "get your para-glider and AK47 ready, you'll be shagging celestial virgins tomorrow" they pressed the pickle button.

A job well done, in my humble opinion.

If you are responsible for sending over 8000 missiles into a country over a twelve month period at indiscriminate targets, you can expect some form of retribution. Targeted retribution, even better. 

This was a big operation... Asian licences, Hungarian factory etc.etc. but could only be used once... I keep wondering what tipped the Israelis into pressing the button there and then... either their intelligence detected an imminent attack (that would be self-defence) or maybe the system was about to be compromised and they had to use it (unlikely unless an airport security scanner picked one up and they were about to be blown)

It may be that some of the targeted terrorists are the ones who pulled the trigger. It may be that they won’t be able to pull any more triggers. That’s the stark reality of war.
