October 15, 20214 yr Stayed in hostel in Hamburg on a stag do, fuckin horrible. A crap mattress like you get in police cells and a sink to piss in, that was it. Had to find a better hotel for the 2nd night.
October 15, 20214 yr City View in Bethnal Green. Only slept in it coz we were all over London during the day but it was a proper dump. Got bit to fuck. Some of the TripAdvisor reviews are mad. Still went back a few years later because it was so cheap! Edited October 15, 20214 yr by tshape
October 15, 20214 yr A hotel in Cape Town that used to be a prison. They hadn’t done much other than give you a key to a cell they’d basically put a telly and some curtains in. was a tenner a night and we bailed after the first and went to the bay instead. Travelodge in Beaconsfield is definitely one to avoid.
October 15, 20214 yr I've told the story on here before about the hotel/hostel in Oakland. Far and away the worst. In the UK, stopped in a few flop houses in Blackpool and a bad one in Llanberis, where a bloke on the next table at breakfast was trying to cook the practically raw bacon he'd been served with a cigarette lighter.

October 15, 20214 yr Goldthorn hotel in Wolverhampton, a mecure establishment. guarantee there won’t be one worse anywhere in this country damp on the walls, wall paper from the 1940s taps that coughed and spluttered before giving a dribble of discoloured water, windows that wouldn’t shut ,never mind lock . Dinner was ordering what was on the menu apart from they had no menus , staff couldn’t tell me what was available but could then tell me nothing left apart from curry but no naan bread , they had a bar with no beer left , jd and coke it is then, no bottle opener for the coke and only a wine glass to put it in . constant noise from floorboards moving as other guests walked about , next morning, breakfast was a tray , on it a bowl, with a box from a cereal multipack with cling film over, a plate with one slice of bread and an empty cup and glass. Milk teabags and hot water available on a fold up table , water from a stand alone burco boiler on this table next to the box of teabags and supermarket plastic bottle of milk , but no chairs in the dining room as they were “ setting up for a meeting “ do you had to do this then carry your breakfast back to your shit room and eat it sat on your bed. honestly, could go on, thought it was a piss take at first and the girl who booked it for me would ring and say “ah got you good style eh ? Here’s your real hotel “ stayed in loads , some of which weren’t up to standard but this was a whole new level of shite

October 15, 20214 yr I used to get an overnight stay allowance in a previous job and so to make a bit of a profit I would source my own B&Bs which were invariably cheap and cheerful. One that sticks in my mind was this dump of a place just outside of Nottingham centre (Hyson Green?). I booked a no smoking room but when I entered it stank of 1,000 smoked Craven A's and all surfaces were covered in tobacco tar. I went to see the landlady and told her I'd specifically booked a no smoking room; 'is anyone smoking in there now?' she said 'well no, but..' 'Well there you go, it's a no smoking room then'. Said with a deadpan serious straight face. Same delightful lady served me my 'full English breakfast' the next morning. Main issue is she'd obviously forgotten to turn on the hob as the 'no frills' sausages and bacon were practically raw, the 'fried' egg decidedly unfried and looked like it had just been cracked directly onto the plate. The white bread was actually grey and smothered in a thick greasy poor man's Stork margarine, and the coffee cup had more culture than NIC. And all served up by mein host wearing a dressing gown and filthy slippers. It wasn't good
October 15, 20214 yr Can anyone else sense a theme here... Not looking good for our local seaside staycation resort
