If a large corporate wants to ‘hire’ the tent for a Christmas do, will they just shut it down for that game? It’s certainly how things happened at its previous incarnation and was one of the things which pissed off most users.

Correct.  Incredible that some are finding fault already!  Difficult to find the negatives, if people don't want to go there's no obligation, presumably it will improve the feel of "occasion" on approaching the ground, which is needed and happens at plenty of away grounds.

That's literally why they are doing this.

So they can still hold more profitable events in the Premier lounge or whatever its called.

I won't be going anyway. Tried the last Fanzone and it wasn't for me. However if it's anything like those pics Neil Hart's credibility will take a massive hit straight away, first class facility ???

Accy's offering was a big tent and ale sold out of the back of a shipping container. Worked a treat.

We don't want/need a fancy first class facility, just somewhere that can sell reasonably priced reasonable quality food & drink at a pace quicker than an asthmatic slug.

It shouldn't be rocket science and doesn't need artists impressions, just crack on and sort the fucker out.

What was it that made it so fucking dismal

The hotel is hardly spit and sawdust but that's a nice atmosphere

Just need to replicate a Mary Dees - easy to get served, bouncing and gets everyone in the mood for a match

There's been more than a whiff of the supporters trust in the pointless bookie ban & the pointless membership thing & now in this grim looking fanzone.

It would be a shame if FV start to lose some of the large amount of goodwill there is towards them by getting too close to a little group who do not speak for the big majority of Wanderers' supporters.

 

There's a big place under the A57 made up of shipping container bars and food stalls. I'm willing to give em the benefit of the doubt. 

If people show interest and drink there they'll throw money at it. 

If, as expected its people moaning for the sake of moaning, it'll probably die a death and the clubs not lost much. 

What are you fucking expecting from a club in the 3rd division that has fuck all money! 🤣 🤣 🤣

That would be the ideal but considering the club seems to be taking steps to reduce the chances of one off man mentals happening via the membership scheme, they'd never be up for supporting a project involving alcohol that can't be as sanitised and controlled as possible.

I think the old one was too much like an organised event in a big open space and used massive tables. It was too well lit and had no atmosphere at all. 

The word fanzone is a bit of a misnomer really, all they need to create is a pop-up pub once a fortnight. Some TVs showing the live sky game or the horse racing etc, some decent music in the background but not too loud that you can't hear people speaking. Smaller pub style tables, decent range of ales/food served by people who know what they're doing.

When we go away and there are a few Bolton fans in the same boozer, it's brilliant and that's what you need to try and recreate. The problem you have with these "organised fun" places is that they're setup and run by people who've never really mixed with football fans in pubs etc.

I could go on about this for hours, I'd love for someone from the club to say to me, go on then Traf, sort the fucker out. 

We met with a guy called Needham many many years ago and pitched the "fanzone' idea to the club and they said it wouldn't work. They then waited about 3 years and launched their own sterile, diluted version which didn't work. There have been too many people involved at the football club who can't run a football club, so how the hell does anyone expect them to be able to run a hospitality venue?

This membership scheme takes all the spontaneity out of it.

Imagine 4 normal (ish) Bolton lads who aren’t season ticket holders sat in a boozer early one Saturday afternoon  one pipes up “Hey, let’s go to the match today” It just ain’t happening. I would guess that for a game like say for instance  Wigan or Sun’lun at home, this barmy scheme will knock 2-3k off the attendance.

I used the 4 lads thing just as an example, albeit a fairly unlikely scenario these days like you say - but it shouldn’t be.

How about a family who aren’t season ticket holders or members and they see that Sunderland are coming to the Unibol in a few days & they fancy a day out - it’s going to be a pain in the arse to get tickets, therefore they more than likely won’t bother.

It could turn out, that under the ill thought out  membership  scheme Sun’lun at home would only attract as many home fans as Fleetwood at home -  and that would be such a shame.

It's good their trying, I admit my remit of building a rough pub just behind the North and East stands is probably not going to pass planning permission

I’m more than happy going in the hotel pre-match, we’ve got settled in there now after doing it for a few seasons but good to see the club trying something.

To be honest, I like the idea of it being for both sets of supporters. Our whole football experience is a bit shit if you’re an away supporter so having somewhere where both sets of fans can mix is a step in the right direction
