I bought that much Celotex the people at Wickes thought I was trade. No regrets.

Jewsons does a cheaper generic - half the price, if they are still going, the one on Lever St. is a Kurdish bakery shop now. Someone told me never use insulation on the inside of old houses, the brickwork needs the heat, if it pisses down then there's a frost then your bricks are fucked.

  • Leave it to go to variable. Don’t fix. Been discussed in other threads but sadly it’s the tories fault on there so don’t bother 👍🏼

  • So, as prices are set to rise massively on Friday... If you're not on a smart meter, make sure you read your meters tomorrow and send the readings in. Traf's top tip? Add a few units onto th

Your energy bill will be £578 more per year (equivalent to £11 per week) for gas and £495 more per year (equivalent to £10 per week) for electricity

I've been paying £47 per month for my Guardian subscription and £22/month for delivery so just cancelled to cover this.

Is this a subversive way of not letting me read subversive lefty journalism?

There is no paywall for The Guardian. They just constantly beg for you to subscribe.....

£2.50 is the cover price of "quality" papers, equates to £70/month By taking a subscription you get discount which covers in my case the cost of having it delivered every morning. I just feel its more civilised to take a paper, I often pick up a Times as well, and I don't absorb information written on a screen very well. Also I like the crosswords and soduku.

On the outside not the inside, those United Utilities tossers had a leaking pipe and we had a cold winter - the bricks on my car-hole got soaked with rising damp and loads fell off at the coldest nights. They fucking denied it. The garage backs onto the street and the leak was on the street.

Is the correct answer

Dimron is right that you can insulate the inside of a solid wall safely enough.

I'm surprised the 300 year old house isn't listed though.

The unheated car-hole lots of the faces of the bricks fell off because of United Utilities leaking and frost. It also didn't help some neighbour paid a tramp in wellies to Karcher their block drive every month and the scruffy rascal would pad out the job for about three hours, stupid fuckers didn't see he was washing all the sand and substrate out as well as sticking shitloads in the water table, silly cunts, probably only paid him a tenner too.

First house I bought they had done the insulation through the walls.
The holes that they had drilled they filled with 95% sand, 2% cement and 3% gypsy prayer.

Had it 6 months before I thought fuckin hell this back up room never gets warm, add to it  the damp behind the radiator and I’vE seen enough Poirot to suspect something was wrong. Went outside with my ladder and the sand just came straight out.

Some cowboys out there Tonto.

My late dad had arranged to have their central heating upgraded then my mam was took ill - his head was in bits, this firm based in Little Lever let's call them Toncepc did the biggest cowboy job since The Magnificent Seven, he'd have pulled them up about their shoddy work if he hadn't been at the hospital most of the time. Wankers, the lads installing were about fifteen so not to blame it was their Fagin boss I'd have twatted but he never showed his face.

I have picked one or two tips up in my 40 odd years since graduating in Building Surveyor.

I'd never buy a listed house, my house obviously dropped off the radar as at the end of the day it's an old shed, house opposite is Grade 2 and the new owners thought it was something to may more for and boast about but they can't even replace a hedge or do some plastering without planning consent. Helping them out as I've done a lot of work on the Cambridge Colleges.

Those bastards waiting for a pay out when I pop my clogs are going to get a lot of stick when they try to cash in... I've done loads of stuff without planning/building regs., all done above normal standards but nowt in writing.

Dogs Trust getting it all anyway

My fixed rate of 101 per month for both is now going to be £151 on variable. Cheapest fixed rate was £207

Our September-April bill has us at £100 in debit so direct debit has stayed the same at £117, presumably as we’ll make it back in credit over the summer. Here’s hoping for a warm summer!

They are pricing in the October increase into the fix as well. But based on that figure they seem to believe I would say costs are going to drop across the next year or it would be higher than that to fix.

Must admit, when I read his post I was expecting his new bill to be much higher.

Do you have particular good insulation, a conscientious family, a wood burner or something.

My current fixed tariff is £140 for both. Had to put it up a bit because I'm now charging my van, but I also have a burner which makes a huge difference.

House is only 14 years old. I know it’s well insulated as when I turn the heating off it stays warm for ages. Only 3 of us in the house now. Used to be 5 including 3 lads all hammering PlayStations constantly

Been telling the family for ages about saving energy, bit deaf ears with my lad at times. Just meithering dad.

Then these price increases happened, and now wife has suddenly joined in and is telling him. Funny that.
