The Cost Of Living Crisis

Anyone felt the pinch yet?

Notice a good proportion of my hotels are quiet this week. But with the jubilee round the corner and pride the week after maybe folk are simply saving their trips for that.

Cant help but feel the media are driving a lot of it. They seem hell bent on us heading into a recession. Making people panic and stop spending.

They should be telling everyone its all gravy.

Only area Ive felt it is diesel. £154 to fill my van the other day. That's taking the piss.

That’s grim. Hopefully not the case. @Spider called this a while back

Worst case scenario- apparently users are to be offered money back for using leccy at night when demand is low. Makes sense.

Not sure they will happen, but perhaps it's a way of getting folk to be a bit more energy smart to ward off issues.

Also, maybe a lot of businesses and organisations need to look at their unnecessary lighting- places having lights on all night for example, and things like electronic advertising boards.

Generators have shot up in price

I bought 2 new battery lanterns and torches a few weeks back in readiness

Did you all stock up on candles and power banks ….?

by stock up, if you mean "pilfer from work" then yes, I've got plenty of power banks - all fully charged up at the office before I brought them home 😀

Scavenging fire wood is free. 😀

Pig fat from the local farm and jute string from the local garden centre.

And some bleach to get the smoke rings off the ceiling.

they better hurry up with my Hybid Solar System if this happens.  I've not put the heating on yet, tonight might be the night.

It is still the property of the landowner so it is still theft. Some common land like Epping Forest you can but in general someone owns the land in this country so taking it without consent is theft.

Not if you've already spoken to the land owner, or applied for scavenger rights.

Or of course, if you get it through your job.

Just had £66 back off scottish power - it is supposed to go back into my bank account but they have just added it as a credit to electricity instead 🤷‍♂️

My mum is on a British Gas PAYG smart meter. Yesterday, her Electricity balance got anonymously topped up by about 60 quid. No change to the Gas though.

Aye, it stays on your account.

My lot suggested dropping payments if I wanted, but I'm still in debit so I'll build it up for a bit.

I mean 'occasional' three hour power cuts as a 'worst case scenario' with 24 hours warning, doesn't really sound that bad to me?
