The Cost Of Living Crisis

Anyone felt the pinch yet?

Notice a good proportion of my hotels are quiet this week. But with the jubilee round the corner and pride the week after maybe folk are simply saving their trips for that.

Cant help but feel the media are driving a lot of it. They seem hell bent on us heading into a recession. Making people panic and stop spending.

They should be telling everyone its all gravy.

Only area Ive felt it is diesel. £154 to fill my van the other day. That's taking the piss.

Get you now.

To be honest, I'm surprised folk get the money refunded directly like that. Still, it's all the same in the end.

It'll right itself after 8 stoppages. Not worth the hassle.

Our car clock is usually wrong for 6 months.

Don't bother with the microwave anymore, sometimes turn it off anyway so it's not on standby.

Cooker is two hours and a bit ahead.

I'm with Octopus on a 2 year fix (in case you missed it) They have just reduced the direct debit monthly payment by £66 - which is more than I used last month thanks to a two week holiday. Thanks Rishi.

Similar here. Runs out end of May.

Hopefully Ukraine will have twatted Russia by then, and we'll be approaching warmer weather and gas demand will be lower.

OPEC on the other hand have decided to cut production so fuel prices will stay high.

My mum is on a British Gas PAYG smart meter. Yesterday, her Electricity balance got anonymously topped up by about 60 quid. No change to the Gas though.

Or is it right for 6 months

Mine have just adjusted down the payment from £246 to £179.

I'm £600 in credit though so think I'll reduce the payment further. Don't suppose that is guaranteed and every chance more firms go bust yet isn't there.

Absolutely fucking ridiculous fuel now. Did £120 at Costco on Friday and it didn’t even fill the tank

I did the save at Costco today. £120 in, and it still wasn't full

Went to Costco and filled up. Did £120 quid and it wasn’t even full.

I bet £35 gets you a lot of hay

Wholesale gas price dropped dramatically now.

Warm autumn helping too.

We probably are, but to be sold at top whack.

We buy it at market price. At the moment, that is quite low.

Presumably, we're still sending lots to Europe to fill their tanks.

We're supposed to be getting our big storage facility up and running again, but I'm not sure about the time frame.

Until then, we have plenty of lng receiving capacity.

You pay what you pay at the point of purchase.

We had to buy loads when the price went up, and you don’t get a discount at a later date.

Same as the metal exchanges

Do we still have the massive gas holders? Apart from one or two grade II listed ones they all went to the scrap yard. There used to be two (or three) on Spa Rd and one at Mill Hill area, all now gone. That’s probably a few million cu ft capacity allowed to become unusable because pipelines are a better bet. That ended well.

Serves you right for driving a tank. Use a car or a van

Companies have to purchase ahead of course, but they have to continually buy nonetheless. A cheap price now takes pressure off for later.

With gas there are two streams too.

The direct contracted supply and the extra bits which ate bought on top according to increased demand.

It was the latter which Putin cut prior to invading Ukraine. The supply was down 50% by the time he went in. A deliberate attempt to push up prices and cause inflation.
