The Cost Of Living Crisis

Anyone felt the pinch yet?

Notice a good proportion of my hotels are quiet this week. But with the jubilee round the corner and pride the week after maybe folk are simply saving their trips for that.

Cant help but feel the media are driving a lot of it. They seem hell bent on us heading into a recession. Making people panic and stop spending.

They should be telling everyone its all gravy.

Only area Ive felt it is diesel. £154 to fill my van the other day. That's taking the piss.

It is indeed Lever Edge Lane.

We have a dryer and have done so for over 20 years. But it only gets used for socks, undies, pj's, towels and bedding. Clothes shrink in them, especially stuff like t-shirts, polo's and anything not thick 100% cotton.

That's because it's poor quality fabric.

Amazing some of the "reasonable" stuff that shrinks.

Got a t shirt whilst on holiday once from a place in Crook. An independent shop, with an unknown brand. Must have been 25- 30 years ago, it never shrank and is only now gaining a couple of wear holes.

Bought a t shirt from the Royal lancs show last month. Wore it once and the seams are coming apart. Wank.

Fucking fixed rate mortgage ends in December. Fucking brilliant. Fucking Kwamikasi. Fucking cunting Truss.

Ah, that feels better. Night all 🙂

Something tells me that’s being saved for a later date…

Probably reading a Viz comic strip on his mobile.

137 a month going to 232

fixed rate ends as prices go up, but that seems OK

I have the same problem but have bought some big rugs which I can take up in the warmer months

Done the rug thing for a few years, because our house is a townhouse, it can get drafty as there aren't doors between the living room (on the third floor) and the dining room on the fourth. So it needed to be done this year esp.

Do you mean the fixed rate period ends (probably) or the mortgage will be fully paid off (unlikely).  If it's the former then you MIGHT find that the affordability rules mean yu cannot get a new mortgage and have to stay on the variable rate option of what you have - even though that may well be dearer.

Any move to switch now would probably incur an unhealthy fee, so there is no way out. Possibly depends how reasonable and fair your lender is when the fixed rate expires.

If the energy prices continue to fall, then the government borrowing/costs won't be as high.

Fingers crossed that the markets relax a bit.

There is also a thought that energy prices could soar back up, if Putin decides to totally turn off the taps as we enter winter

Nord stream 1 & 2  have developed  “ leaks “ today .
Putins desperation won’t be “ limited “ to threats of nuclear  and physical destruction, he’ll use everything from subtle to extreme and no doubt this could be the start of that.

Aye, just seen that. Doesn't make much sense though given they're not pumping any gas through them anyway.

My fixed rate ends in June. I’ve already been on to the bank and have an appointment next week re a remortgage. No idea what rates will be available then, mind.

Currently, for me, it’s looking better to pay the early repayment charge and remortgage (reducing the loan amount a bit), rather than wait until February to lock in a new rate.

He's already (allegedly) doing deals with the likes of Pakistan, India and China to sell his oil/gas, so there won't be a shortage  places for him to sell it

If I was him, I'd be turning them off totally.....and I really think that's what he'll do.

The difference in 1992 was that sterling was fixed within a set range, so Soros and others realised that the government would have to act. This time there is the marker of parity with the dollar but nothing that forces them to act so speculators are not guaranteed to win as was the case back then.

Getting another log burner put in the extension in addition to the living room

£80 bags of wood go a long way

Carpets down and by god it looks 10000 times better and already warmer.

There’s still gas in it, to leak but yeh, wonder what the motive is other than possibly sabotage by Ukraine to cut off revenue streams . Russia don’t need to sabotage it as they can just turn off.
unless they want to show they can do it to threaten the new Baltic pipeline .

read that there was seismic activity reported around the same time as pressure loss too so God knows .

It’s very bad for the environment too , which would have been the main issue years ago.
