Brand Evatt

We had a decent thread a while back discussing Evatt’s philosophies and approach to the game (think it got tainted and pulled)

So not a bad time to start it up again at the beginning of the season.

In the main he’s done a fantastic job. A minority lost patience round about Xmas/New Year in both seasons.

But surely now he has the large backing of the majority of fans and the brand he talked about implementing here is now well and truly established.

Good article above highlighting how he’s using Sport Science to get the squad performing to it’s optimum level.

A young, meticulous, intelligent and passionate individual, who we are very lucky to have leading our club.

I hope he gets what he deserves with promotion to the Championship.

All the analysis and data aside, I just don't get how the board can seriously be sat thinking anything else but that change needs to happen. And if they think that Evatt can be the one to change

I’d just like to point her to her statement a couple years back:

“We will not tolerate any forms of discriminatory behaviour or hateful language whatsoever for we are a family club that is proud of our town.

“Our message is simple: if you come to the University of Bolton Stadium then we want you and your family to enjoy the match in a friendly environment.

“Yes, we want supporters to chant and shout words of encouragement to create a passionate atmosphere, but if you choose to say anything, or act in a way, that is racist or discriminatory then please stay away.

If supporters witness any behaviour that is racist or discriminatory, we would urge them to contact their nearest steward or a member of BWFC staff. You may also email customerservices@bwfc.co.uk

Are we all emailing in the to report it. It’d be hilarious that he’s been swaggering round like mr Teflon if this was to become the straw that broke the camels back.

For me, he should go for this because that’s Evatt showing his true feelings. No excuses whatsoever. Something like that cannot be allowed to be tolerated especially publicly.

Not ideal but if people can’t take it, they shouldn’t give it. Always amazed how people think it’s ok to sing for a bloke to be sacked / make accusations about his private life and then get twitchy the second he responds.

For the record, I think it’s time for a change. But this won’t really register for me personally. He clearly still cares.

Trouble is though, he’s the figure head and is earning a shit load of money so yoU must remain professional in all settings when you’re at work.

Only a few gobshites talking rubbish.

Evatt needs to take his own advice and "man up".

Can’t disagree. But I run my own business. And if my customers spent their day outside singing for me to be sacked and shouting that I’m shagging a bird from Tesco / hotel / Sharon / etc I’d have long since snapped.

You’re right, but the human being in me has sympathy with him for this

What if he was the subject of the discriminatory or hateful language?

Telling someone to fuck off isn't racist or discriminatory

Well, she’s ignored all his other aberrations.

Amy & the betting - they weren’t while he was with us

His on-field misdemeanours - he’s either apologised for and /or paid a penalty for.

He came out and apologised for the “Man-up” comment to Billy Crellin.

So I’m presuming he either took it upon himself or Sharon was on his case for those.

I mean he keeps fucking up on and off the pitch doesn’t he! 😂

How much more does it take on and /or off the pitch?

There has to be a tipping point somewhere, and I think it’s fair game under the circumstances, to debate whether this is one public humiliation too far.

Fair points to raise, and a long list of misdemeanours to go at. I think given the circumstances, I can sort of understand him reacting. Not a good look and doesn’t help with everything going on.

What I would say (marketing person in me coming out here) is there’s actually a massive opportunity here for him and Sharon to actually rally people.

Evatt to come out and front up on this. Apologise without reservation and take it on the chin. Tell people, and mean it, how much he cares and how much he loves the club. How desperate he is to succeed. Plead for everyone to stick with him a little longer and let’s all turn this around together. Great PR people make a positive out of a negative.

This is exploding on social media now.

This could be a difficult one to ride and ignore.

While it was a few folk talking about hearing it, it was relatively low key. This video is sending it into a different dimension, news outlets are picking up on it.

FWIW, in my opinion, I’m not overly fussed or upset about it and it’s a pretty understandable reaction, as I imagine he’s taking dogs abuse.

However, it’s yet again another error on his behalf, it’s another slip on the behaviour/discipline scale at a time when he can ill afford it.

Big decision for Sharon when she’s challenged and questioned on this.

Given you can't really see it, could be anything, swearing in general because he's annoyed with the situation.

Unless there's video of him aggressively swearing directly at fans this looks like nothing to me.

 Very good post.

I can definitely see it playing out this way.

”People only have a level of tolerance to take abuse before they react, I only react because I care, I want to get this right, I should know better, heat of the moment, I’m desperate to turn it around, got to be in this together” blah blah blah

So the fella who claimed he said "Fuck the lot of you!" was bullshitting... Who knows what evoked that reaction? Still looks terrible mind.

Is this what we’ve become? Getting upset and on our high horse about something as trivial as this? Some of the shit on twitter reminds me of those people desperate to be offended and upset by anything.

The bloke should be gone, long gone, but in the heat of the moment, after all the shit he’s been getting, I can’t honestly say I wouldn’t have done the same.

Not a great deal in it for me, as you say. He hasn't eyeballed anyone, pointed the finger, flicked the Vs, just a hugely frustrated little gob-off. We don't know what exactly was said to prompt it but no doubt it was pretty industrial.

It's an unedifying part of the modern game where folk choose to sit in proximity to managers and players (usually the opposing ones) to spend 90 mins giving them dogs abuse, then if one of them snaps and flicks them a quick V they report them to the Police.

I used to go to Rochdale fairly regularly when Hill and Flitcroft were there, had tickets in main stand one night, game wasn't going well and the constant dialogue between them and a couple of blokes in the stand was full-on. That little exchange on Saturday was nothing by comparison

I’m pretty sure the club or Evatt will respond. But I don’t think it will wash.

Since day 1, there’s something about Evatt that hasn’t quite connected with fans (that’s my interpretation anyway). Hard to put a finger on it, but I think he could benefit from some really good PR training. Maybe he’s had it and just doesn’t connect in the way that some do.

Almost feel like we don’t see enough of his personality of any vulnerability from him. Tough to show but I do think it would endear him to fans if he showed a bit more of this.

I’ll email Sharon in the morning 😉

is that it? seriously? Fuck sake people need to get a grip.

Then you have idiots spouting statements and rules and regulations, for that? Fuckin ell you bunch of pussies.

We all know the majority of fans want him to go but some of you need to get a fucking life.

I actually agree with you.

I said it earlier, doesn’t bother me, an understandable reaction, as he’s probably being targeted by some muppets.

In days gone by, in lower leagues, amateur sport, it’s happened/happening on a regular basis.

If anything at least he cares and he’s being passionate!

But in the world we live in now, there’s no way this is going to be passed off with it “being nothing” “move on get a grip”, not when you’ve got Marc Iles, saying he’s contacted the club for a response.

Like it or not, agree with it or not - it’s a story that won’t go away overnight.

I was one of those literally sat right in front of Evatt in WSL, right above where the stretcher crew reside and it was much worse in person than on that video.

Yes it was just 2 words and people are saying, "well everybody was giving him shit". But his response was completely inexcusable and uncalled for.

Nobody was giving him abuse near where I was sat, only booed at half time like half the stadium did.

Folk in the past have yelled on occasion, "sort it out Evatt" etc. but again from where I was sat, there was simply no excuse whatsoever, to his own supporters as well?

I had a bloke who was sat with his 6 year old kid next to me, who Evatt was virtually looking at when he said fuck off to.

Yes he's human, but he's the manager, a representative of a whole town. You don't get away unpunished like this in the real world in any professional manner.

I remember Megson turning around at us in the same area due to our close proximity at the height of the toxicity and he disagreed with someone yelling but even he didn't stoop so low.

Completely and utterly embarrassing.

If you're a manager in any business and you tell a bunch of customers to fuck off you're absolutely in the shit.

Can't see why anyone would defend his reaction here. He's a football manager, he's going to get dog's abuse, it comes with the territory. And, as he keeps telling us, he's tough and can take it.

I think the comparison to the Bruce Rioch story is belting.

Anybodt else not really gire a shit? He can tell the whole crowd to fuck off over the PA if he gets 3 points tomorrow night as far as I'm concerned.

I personally give a shit because, one, it happened right next to me and it's embarrassing. And two, I want this manager to get gone for the sake of us salvaging something from this season and it not just being a complete waste of time and money.

If this story can even contribute in the slightest bit, I'm all for it. But saying this probably nothing will happen except a slap on the hand from mummy Sharon.
