To be fair, I thought that’s what we locked down in March for...

More ventilators, Extra beds (nightingales), Bring doctors and nurses back to increase headcount, learn how to treat the virus, build a track and trace system etc etc

Seems to me like we are in the same boat as we were in March by all accounts. Let’s hope this vaccine comes quick and works or we could be back here 3 or 4 times yet

That's the concern for me. We don't seem to have learned anything.

Groundhog Day

I was genuinely all right with the first lockdown, we were clearly not ready for it at all

we’ve been talking about a second wave in the Autumn for 6 months yet it’s like a big surprise

Colossal fuck up

What are we to learn?

Far east does it better. Yes.

Is their population generally far more compliant and respectful? Yes.

Are western nations all struggling, and having sections of the population actively fighting against virtually everything, including the very existence of the virus? Yes.

Is it any wonder Western nations are struggling? Fuck no.

Heard someone on TV saying that in the east they take a SARS approach, whereas we've taken a flu approach.

That is they test,  track, trace and islolate like bastards whereas we treat and wait for a vaccine.

You think the same folk who’ve caused this will obey this? Not a chance. Army on the streets. Hard line approach needed

Universities, schools, carehomes and hospitals are the biggest hotbeds.

People not obeying rules is well down on the list as to why its spread.

Indeed. Doesn't matter a great deal how good or otherwise your test and trace is though, if buggers refuse to isolate.

Just think how easily one cunt could infect loads of others during that time.

Also remember places like Korea were geared up for t and t following their experiences with stars and mers.

Clearly now a debate as to whether we ensure we are set up similarly going forward, but that wasn't what Whitty was presented with when it kicked off here. He had to fight the fire with a watering can.

Kids don't get it from pubs, workplaces, carehomes or hospitals though.

They get it from other kids or households generally.

If the community transmission by adults was lower then the transmission by the youngsters would be lower.

Went in a butty shop today. They've spent a pretty penny on all sorts of measures.

Three staff. None with facial protection. 4 adults as customers, only me and another bloke with a mask. 2 children neither with a mask.

I was the only one that neither wandered around the shop nor touched anything like chairs, walls, etc. I made a point of watching their behaviour.

None of the surfaces were cleaned, understandably, and none of the other customers cleaned their hands upon leaving, so would potentially be touching their face soon after. Its so easy to see why this thing transmits so easily.

People aren't following the very basic rules that were highlighted at the beginning.

Why? So just do what you want yes? It’s why we are where we are that

Looking at the presentation Cornwall was bottom of everything, no increases in infection rate etc etc. They took the view that people living there had behaved properly and being forced to lockdown and shut everything because that wasn't the case elsewhere would leave you feeling like saying fuck off.

Like I said, without looking into it more I don't know if it's fair enough or not.

Occasionally in our rants on here people refer to our absentee police fo- service

or the laughable PCSO  service and then troops on the streets will sort it out

just asking for a friend , do we actually have any troops these days?

back growing up everybody had  a mate , brother , cousin in the army

Yes

I can forgive the first lockdown, we just weren’t ready like the Asian countries

6 months on, £400bn spent and we seem to be back to square 1

Shit show

Could spend double and it wouldn't make any difference, apart from maybe a bit slower.

Not surprised in the slightest.

I was pleased to hear they are being mobilised with the roll out of this new testing equipment.

Lad would love it if a tank pulled up with a few new machines at his school. :)
