Saying gyms arent important, just exercise outside (in November?!) just go for a run etc etc is utter ignorant, inconsiderate bullshit. Not everyone can, wants to, or feels comfortable taking to the streets to exercise. If they did, they wouldn't be complaining the gyms are shut.

First world problems

Caring about peoples physical and mental health isnt a first world problem.

Theres people on the edge with all this, and exercise is all theyve got.

Im not talking about lads wanting a pump on either. People in recovery, remission, rehabilitation, obesity issues, physical therapy, anxiety and depression programmes etc etc

Think folk are underestimating the effect closing these places has.

Hang on a minute, Marc505 didn’t mention mental health in his mini-rant. It seemed a bit of a complaint that he and his exercise regime were affected. Hence my rather glib response for which I make no apology.

Its a fair point. I'm not sure I'd of made such a flippant edit of Marc's original post if it had been making a mental health point.

Not sure how anyone can argue gyms are safe after looking at how Covid is transmitted through the air.

Unless you're wearing a mask & all windows are open. Other than that it's one of the highest risk places you can be.

It's shit though. I've always had a gym membership over the winter.

That’s a very interesting informative link👍
droplets v aerosols is interesting and shows where some get their anti mask  ‘proof ‘from , but more interesting is the fact they seem to say there’s not been a single transmission case from touching a contaminated surface?

whether that’s the sanitizer/ hygiene routine working or if it’s not as dangerous as thought in that area , who knows

Point is everyone suffering mental health has their own way of dealing with it. How can it be fair to keep gyms open if it helps gym goers mental health but not other establishments?

Aye it really helped me understand things that link. Helps with the visuals too.

I've read that about the surfaces elsewhere too. Got a lot to do with viral load as well.

Not disputing that. Just saying it read as just a rant rather than a point.

You're not wrong, there is a fella that drinks in my local, lives alone and is in there everyday after work as his only social interaction. Self employed as well so can work all day alone on some days. I rang him the other day just for a chat as I'm aware of his situation. It gave me cause for concern about him as he seemed really rather low. I've since sent messages to a few of the other regulars to try and make sure at least one of us is giving him a call everyday, even just to talk shite with for a bit. You can call him out for the harm he is doing to himself, being in the pub everyday, but in the here and now the loneliness and harm its doing to his mental health is obvious and present.

In reality, it's just a shite time for all at the minute, but some are gonna feel it more than others in all walks of life.
