Seems incredible he's been at Cheltenham so long, he'd have a field day in this team, not necessarily scoring every week but he'd be great at the link up play.  Pass of the day for that chance they headed over (and we did some great passes ourselves at times).

Got the first hurdle out of the way when we carried on playing when their prick number three hobbled back on the pitch to then go back down. But then the front two were coming back with their defence in an effort to get on-side! Surely we just needed them both (or even just one) to stay put on the edge of the box with the injured player playing them on-side and we’d either have acres of space as their defence drops back to mark him, or alternatively a simple long ball forward and a walk in??

Yes, pre-Barnsley we were 16 points adrift, we've got 16 points since and they've got 8.  Surprised to see that considering we lost 1 and drew 1, but as you say they've only played 5, to our 7.

Never going to be easy against what was 11 behind ball as soon as they lost it but that high line could have been broken a few times if back three, esp Santos, were prepared to play it forward quicker. Too many touches required before they saw the option, when it had all but gone. Vic and Dion were making the runs and showing for it but not getting it. 

We still got into enough good positions today though but final ball, especially from wide, was well off it. 

Anyway, class won out over shithousery in the end, great goal and another good show from Dempsey, in great shape at minute.

Until refs are directed to issue yellow cards as soon as they see time wasting, even if after 15-20 minutes, it will carry on unchecked. That ref knew very well what the no3 was about but just kept warning him, at least 4 times, till he eventually cracked, after over an hour. Keeper was nearly as bad.

There is talk of having an off-pitch clock manager, like Rugby League, who will stop the clock whenever play is delayed.

Initially that'd be chaotic but players would soon learn that time wasting gained nothing & it's excesses would cease.

I guess it'll take a while but bring it on.

We all go to see a game, win or lose, lets have a game. If you are going to start slowing it down and trying to drag it out for a 0-0, fucking pointless.

That fucking 3, he indicated to the bench he was injured then came back on to the pitch and ref watched him do it, before collapsing. 

Why can't ref just say pop over and politely say, 'you walked back on, so walk back off if you're fucked. 'Play on!'

Just seen Ipswich were one down at Cambridge, Cambridge scored, ref had blown for a penalty that Cambs missed.

Cheltenham/Burton/Morecambe doesn't matter if we're in form, playing well we just struggle against shithouse teams, we never seem to score early against them to draw them out... add to that them only really engaging in side-line football in attempt to win throw ins & corners to cause panic to us along with disrupting us. Too many players just weren't on it today, the team as a whole had an off day but three points is all that matters so we move onto the next. Fantastic goal from Dempsey, shame Bradley will miss a tough match Sat.

Can't blame Cheltenham for slowing it down, low block, pressing and disrupting because that would probably be their best game plan against a better footballing team and they won't be the last to do it - we should expect it and be prepared for it. It's about what we do and the reality was that we never got our passing game going, weren't creative enough to carve them open or clinical enough with the few chances we got so we've got a lot of improving to do to be a top side.

Horrible watch today but if we'd scored earlier it would have been a different game altogether. We couldn't and the longer it went on with the scores level there was even less reason for them to change their game plan - and we were lucky Goodwin didn't bury that header when he only had Trafford to beat.

Not arsed about what the teams above us are doing - at this stage of the season we simply need to win everything especially with Barnsley and Peterbough breathing down our necks with three games in hand on us and Wycombe FFS not far behind so next week's clash is a must win IMO and we'll have to be a lot better than today. It will be a totally different kind of game though because the Posh will have a right go at us seeing as it's a six pointer as they used to say.

 

In the last month Plymouth  stuck 4  past Cheltenham, Derby stuck 3 past them. Bolton don't create many chances and don't score many goals because they are too negative in my opinion. John, Toal, Santos Jones, Bradley is one too many defenders and the reason for the lack of chances and goals, not the tactics of Cheltenham.

Too negative?! We had 24 shots away at Charlton last week in the same shape. Plymouth scored 4 and Derby scored 3 playing 3/5 at the back. Every team in the top 6 plays 3/5 at the back so that isn’t an argument. Didn’t all 3 teams promoted last season play 3/5 at the back?… Sunderland didn’t before they sacked Johnson but did when Neill came in … they switched. We have the 3rd best defence in the league and the 5th/6th best in the EFL. Goals win games … defences win promotions.
 

Cheltenham’s tactics are exactly what knocked us off our game and why we struggle against those types of teams. The low block and disrupting our momentum at every opportunity. It is very difficult to play at any tempo when they take a minute for every goal kick, throw in etc then sit with 10 behind the ball. It is one our biggest weaknesses and we usually don’t score early enough to draw those types of teams out. That being said whilst we weren’t at our best yesterday we still had chances with the ball across the box 2/3 times, Dion had  a few… we just need to take those chances. We also kept our 8th clean sheet in a row at home….
