Duff is a good manager but he hardly fits that mould, based on what heโs done with Barnsley - I canโt see him slotting in to carry on the job that Martinโs done at Swansea, it looks more like a change in approach to get the man they want rather than find the man to suit the approach. Good for us though as it should weaken Barnsley. Quote

Think he lives in Cheltenham. Shows the power of our ownership Group and the bond theyโve got with Evatt (and the clever ways in which theyโve incentivised him with shares etc) that I was never worried weโd lose him - if it was all a normal set up and relationship then Iโve no doubt that Swansea would be after him and I think Evatt would see Swansea as a good chance of getting to the Prem. As it is, heโs taking us there instead. Quote
Whitesince63 Posted June 18, 2023 Posted June 18, 2023 I may not like Duffs football but like Warnes itโs effective and certainly if he does leave which is pretty nailed on to me, it will definitely weaken the Tykes. Theyโre pretty much certain also to lose a couple of their best players so Iโm not sure how much of a threat theyโll be next season anyway? Quote
paulhanley Posted June 23, 2023 Posted June 23, 2023 Duff leaving Barnsley will throw a spanner in their works at just the wrong moment. Perhaps of as much significance is the turmoil at Reading just now - no manager, EFL all over them as regards their finances. They're currently in paralysis too. Without that they'd have been a challenger.ย Most active in the decision so far this season have been Pompey and Oxford. The latter are working from a fairly low base, the former were pretty strong already. I have to say though the signings they've made don't strike me as being any more than solid/modest improvement.ย Even though the fixtures its still very early days though.... Quote
Site Supporter Biggish Dave Posted June 23, 2023 Site Supporter Posted June 23, 2023 I reckon Oxford will do ok - they under achieved last season. They'll be a solid top/mid table team Quote

Site Supporter Biggish Dave Posted June 28, 2023 Site Supporter Posted June 28, 2023 I reckon there's going to be a fair number of decent teams without there being an outstanding team looking at signings clubs have made. We're going to have to be consistent to come out at the top end of it all Quote
Whitesince63 Posted June 28, 2023 Posted June 28, 2023 I agree, I think L1 next year will be far more competitive and even than it has for the last few years with the promotion of the likes of Wendies, Ipswich and Sunderland. Obviously there are still some big fish like derby, Pompey, Charlton and ourselves but I donโt see record points totals this year so if we can just add that bit of quality and consistency we should be well set for a tilt at the automatics.
