Will be interesting to see how the authorities are going to achieve this. If the guilty person is adamant that they don't want to attend, then how do you get them in to the dock and to behave? Most will have nowt to lose.

If it’s for cases similar to Lucy Letby then drag them up kicking and screaming and stick them in a sound proof glass box. At this point they shouldn’t have a right to chose what they want to do.

Aye

Human rights are only for humans.

Get the fuckers trussed up and make them look at what they did

Interstingly, listened to the bloke on the radio whose daugther had been murdered (I honestly can't recall who she was - might have been a PC) anyway, her killer didn't come into court or listened to his statement. He wasn't sure dragging them up was the best thing for the victims' families if they make a scene or they can turn their backs, show more contempt etc - he thought it might add to the trauma by making it more about the killer than the victim.

I dunno - I think i'd want them to hear.

How do you make some listen? There's always a chance the guilty person is going to kick-off and make it all about them. It could be unpleasant and stressful for the families of the victims. Do we gag and tie the guilty person up? I'm not saying it's a bad idea they are made to attend. I'm just wondering how the courts are going to do it.

Worst case I guess, is if they have absolutely no remorse and they just sit their laughing as sentence is passed - now that would be very distressing for the families potentially. I'm not sure that gagging and trussing folk up will work, you'll never get that passed through the courts

That's my point. It's ok putting up ridiculous pictures on what we think should be done. We don't live in China or Saudi Arabia were they don't give a fuck about human rights or the feelings of the victims families. I'm just intrigued on how it will be done.

and if its full life, if they dont want to turn out, fuck em

Folk want to see the whites of the eyes of the guilty. They want to see them face justice, whatever the fuck that is.

You are correct. It's pandering to public opinion. They are getting in before Starmer pipes up. A lot of work has got to be done before the next General Election.

If you mean the tories, they’ve had 12 years to do some work.

even stripping 2 years out for a pandemic, they’ve been dog dirt.

Bit I expect a big push on some populism and easy targets for the next few months. Boats, mainly.

Balls to human rights. If we were all for human rights they wouldn’t be banged up in a tiny cell for 23hrs a day.

This is my concern.

An mp spoke about this a couple of weeks back, as did a lawyer type- both expressed concern that the respect and decency of the court could be disrupted by some one acting up.

Even with a soundproof box, they could still make a scene.

The idea they shared with many others of a speaker in the cell, and opportunity for a judge to add time for refusal to attend makes more sense.

It's only become an issue in recent weeks, and certainly shouldn't be used by either party as a political tool.

Quite disgraceful for anyone to use the grief of a victim to make headway.

Much as the freakish charge that was  potentially to be levied at Malkinson, such a change can and should be made gently, quickly and respectfully without any cuntishness.

Like I said. I want to know how we are going to get lifers to face the judge and the families with their impact statements when they don't want to.

I'm not saying people are right or wrong on this. I'm asking how are the courts going to do it. You and I know trussing them up like Hannibal Lecter isn't going to happen.

In all honesty, so long as they get banged up and are never seen or heard of again, that’s the main thing.

I get that they should face up in court, but making sure they do the sentence is the key.
