Popular Post Biggish Dave Posted October 21, 2023 Popular Post Posted October 21, 2023 A real legend in the English game. Sad to see someone who's done so much for our game gone. RIP - regardless of club colour. Some things far more important Quote
Johnnyrotten Posted October 21, 2023 Posted October 21, 2023 What a player - what a shot on him. I'm not aware of many players at the top level that could score with with shear power from distance, with either left or right foot. And as @Underpants said, what humility, and class off the pitch. RIP. Quote
Lt. Aldo Raine Posted October 21, 2023 Posted October 21, 2023 I remember watching the full replay of the 1958 Cup final when the DVD was released about ten years ago, and his technique was so far ahead of the rest he looked like a time traveller Quote

MancWanderer Posted October 21, 2023 Posted October 21, 2023 Proper gentleman One of those who crosses all club rivalries RIP to a genuine legend of the game Quote
jayjayoghani Posted October 21, 2023 Posted October 21, 2023 He was clearly gutted when Nat died so thought him alright after that. RIP Bobby. Quote
Zico Posted October 21, 2023 Posted October 21, 2023 They read out his career stats on R5 Most impressive And to think he was dragged out of a plane wreck aged 20 that took out most of his team mates Quote
RONNIE PHILLIPS Posted October 21, 2023 Posted October 21, 2023 He certainly has a claim to be regarded as England's best ever.... R. I. P. Quote
Nottm_Wanderer Posted October 21, 2023 Posted October 21, 2023 A gentleman of the game for sure . Apparently he had to man mark Franz Beckenbauer out of the game in the 66 world cup final , a key role in the game . RIP Bobby Quote
boogs Posted October 21, 2023 Posted October 21, 2023 A true football legend, never mind his club affiliation. Gave his all to the game and his country. He'll do for me. RIP Bobby. Quote

Well, he reckoned it was. Sir Bobby Charlton describes the task of man-marking the 'awesome' Franz Beckenbauer - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/41532808 I guess (yet) another minute's silence upcoming then. Quote
bolty58 Posted October 22, 2023 Posted October 22, 2023 Loved to see the man in an England shirt. West Ham claim the glory behind the 1966 win but it was Bobby Charlton who was the driving force throughout the tournament. Absolute gentleman. I never forget that as a wet behind the ears autograph hunter, stood out in the cold and rain, he would make sure that every single kid got every single photo etc. signed before he headed off whilst other players would sign a few and scarper. This is no time for club rivalries. RIP Sir Bobby. A true great and a true gent. Quote

It’ll be a minute applause in order to drown out the hard-of-thinking who would break a silence; even for this. RIP Sir Bobby. Quote

First and probably last time he’d been asked to man mark, suppose that’s why Ramsey was a managerial legend. Quote
