Transfers to move the needle?

IE says we have money to spend on 2 or 3 1st 11 players.

I don't know what move the needle means. But I wonder who we have in mind. Vic for one has to be moved out ....

Hearing £1.5m for Randall. He seems very similar to a blend of williams/collins/McAtee to me. A fortune for us for more of the same. Cashing in on Charles maybe?

Quite amazing purchase of another clone player.

Charles to Huddersfield to be completed by Monday (on twitter)

Yeah he'd get crucified unless he brought another striker in.

I actually don't think it's the worst idea in the world if he can get someone who can hold the ball up, but the reaction would be huge.

5 at the back, 4 10s and Vic up top, what could go wrong?

Joe Taylor a striker from Luton seems to be mentioned on X, probably bollocks.

Luton can keep their players, last one we got has turned out crap

Don’t jump the gun.

Bolton fans are very patient before they make their mind up.

He’ll get at least 30 minutes grace before he’s a superstar or put on the scrap heap

I go back to Evatt's quote (via Iles) of a couple of weeks back about wanting people in the window who hit the ground running and could make us better. That in itself makes sense, but I read into it that it's better at doing the same stuff, rather than ones who can make us better by offering us something different or allowing us to change the approach.

Said elsewhere that Evatt used to place a lot of store on how, when we had Charles and Kachunga, we defended from the front and tenaciously got the ball back. With Charles gone, Collins and McAtee up front and someone like Randall in behind, the way out from the back for opponents looks even less challenging than it has been already this season.

I really don't get it. He looks exactly like what we already have in Lolos, Collins, McAtee - luxury player who can play behind a striker or out wide in a 3.

Just hoping I've not been watching properly when we've played them and he turns out to be a proper midfielder who can also get forward.

We've got five at the back
Just big Vic in attack
We're playing with four number tens
And we're gonna get battered again
Ole, ole

*Pass the ball around the defence for 5 mins while losing*

Given Randall is now a Wanderer, according to Wikipedia 😄 - can't help but feeling that a change in formation to 4-2-3-1 would far better suit the players:

                                                                 Southwood (Baxter)

Jones (Cogley)                 Toal (Forino)                                   Santos (Forrester)                 Johnston (Williams)

                                           Thomason (Dempsey)                 Sheehan (Morley)

CMG (Williams / Tutu)                           Randall (Lolos)                             Collins (Schon)

                                                               Charles (McAtee)

It's not gonna happen, but we can live in hope!

This system is the preferred system of most premier league teams but we all know Evatt will not change.

Yeah, pretty sure Nottingham Forest play this system with Chris Wood up top, doesn't seem to be working does it?

Nuno does love his pacey wingers (Traore, Hudson-Odoi)

So do i, i think schon on the left and Des on the right would give us good options particularly in a 4-2-3-1 away from home.

The issue with that system is that the CF has got to be better than our current options at holding up the ball and linking play. We're way to lightweight up top unfortunately.

If we had (or Evatt was prepared to play with) a more suitable central striker, I'd actually consider Williams as a winger in a three man front line. Radical I know, but he has real pace, can go by a man, cross and get shots off. All fantasy anyway, it'll never happen.

For all that Evatt is a follower of coaching fashion, he is actually set in a way that's now out of vogue at the most successful clubs. None of the top 10 in the Prem play with anything other than 4 at the back, all playing either 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 except City, 4-1-4-1

With such a formation, I'm not sure you'd be looking at being too direct, up to a lump.

Can always look to get into space between midfielders and defenders and look for runs from your man up top.

If looking to go early, then into the channels, and utilise one of those attacking midfielders to make an early, forward run.

Could do with some decent wingbacks if we insist on playing this braindead system.

I'd imagine that fee will be the "rising to" figure

agree it wouldn't look great.

I have a feeling (based on nowt, really) that our happy camp is not that happy at the moment. I suspect we may see one or two exits that are disappointing but Evatt deems necessary for team harmony, i.e. mardy fuckers who are dragging down the mood. They won't make any sense if you're outside the tent, but may well be necessary.

But if so, I reserve the right to accuse him of getting rid of anyone who doesn't agree with him 😁

The latest non-league star to be linked with a move into the professional game is Ilkeston Town striker Tom Cursons, who already has 20 goals to his name in the Northern Premier League this season.

Derby County, Bolton Wanderers, Barnsley and Peterborough United are all thought to be chasing the 23-year-old
