Dr. Feelgood Posted February 26, 2025 Posted February 26, 2025 We have, for a very long time, failed to really bring youth through. Obviously some but nowhere near enough. As a manager you are either someone who does, or who doesn't. That must have an impact on who youngster sign with. Quote
Wanderlust Posted February 26, 2025 Posted February 26, 2025 We’re fishing in an empty pond when it comes to recruiting talented youngsters. There are at least 6 EPL clubs who are picking the cream when they are still foetuses so at best we can get a rare late developer. Quote

That was absolutely been the plan in neglecting the younger ages and having the B team. And yet, for whatever reason, we’ve not had a sniff out of that market whereas it has effectively kept Latics in business for the last few years. Quote

waffer cup 07 Posted February 27, 2025 Posted February 27, 2025 Any game that Wrexham lose is a good thing in my book. Little club playing at being billy big bollocks. Quote
Only In Welsh Posted February 27, 2025 Posted February 27, 2025 Honestly, glad we went out. The absolute media toss fest and circus that a Brum v Wrexham final would've created would've been a huge distraction. And annoying. Its not only fans of other club who get annoyed at the media circus that follows us. I still think Saturday will be a belter. Defeat last night will mean Parky will have read the riot act and I'll be amazed if we don't come flying out from the off and be really aggressive. Probably be 0-0 now I've said that. Quote

Did Parky pick a similar strength team to the previous round against us? Faal scored which tells me he didn't pick his main strikers? Quote

I’m not sure it’s Parkys way to come flying out of the box Welsh, I don’t think he’ll change the way he plays whatever happened last night. To be fair to Posh they were better than you and really shouldn’t have been behind anyway so in the end the result reflected the game. Obviously it will be a totally different team on Saturday but still one that slipped up to Orient so maybe you’ve hit your peak and you’ve been found out a bit? Quote

Tis true I,m afraid, my 13 y.o nephew has been at wiggin for a few years, he had choices including bolton but this was pre football ventures time and the facilities etc were shocking compared to wiggin. Bigger clubs have 'select' and 'satellite' squads too; so their academy will 3/4 times the size of Bolton/Burnley/Wigan- majority of kids/parents would rather be in elite than select- Burnley U15s beat Man City select 8-2 last week for example, so numbers are there... but not the necessarily the best Quote

Lt. Aldo Raine Posted February 27, 2025 Posted February 27, 2025 They also have Jamie Carragher's son at centre-back and Sam Tickle as their goalkeeper Both came through their Academy, and Sam Tickle will likely be sold in the summer for a similar kind of fee as the other two Quote

We're not They have a better reputation -understandable given the above - and spend more on their Academy set-up Theirs is a Category 2 and ours is a Category 3, meaning they have higher qualified coaches and better facilities But the club is run on a shoestring now and it remains to be seen how long they keep that funding If they do roll it back, I've made the point before that we should be straight in there to try and take advantage Quote

The money issues that Bolton had in the last few years almost killed the academy, stripped right down, loads of scouts gone. Not sure how much they have recovered really. Even when my lad was young, Bury before they want pop had a better reputation for its academy. Bolton have had some belters too, they just get flogged very early for small amounts. Quote

Now, he can barely get any mins for Charnock Richard in the NW Counties. Edited February 27, 2025 by Pablo Quote

Tricky one innit. Invest in the facilities/coaches hoping to unearth a couple of local gems that have slipped under Man City's radar, or don't bother at all. If it's working for Wigan though, I'd like to think we could at least compete with their system. Quote

Like Wigan, Burnley too always been quality and Bury used to, some just dont. Huddersfield once just got rid of the entire acad, all the way to the U21 age, just cancelled every team. Always bugged me how little Bolton actually do in the town, no prescence at all for years now. Should have this area locked down, making big clubs come knocking on BWFC's door.
