I'm sure someone could come up with a very short list of captains to have played for SS at Plymouth (I'm ruling Stoke out as a captain there is unlikely to be dropping down to L1 unless he's well into his 30s now, and we don't sign old players do we?). I think most captains tend to be CBs or centre mid, it narrows the field even more. Not sure if that is a player we could attract, but happy to be proved wrong. From SS comments think signing older players is very much in his plans. Quote

I reckon he meant ones with a decent level of experience; either at a higher level or with getting promoted put of this. We have players who are approaching 30, but who maybe lack that experience. Domcarey1 Posted April 27, 2025 Posted April 27, 2025 Iles alluding that certain players not involved yesterday might be for other reasons rather than injury. Santos, Etete & Tutu maybe…. Quote

Tonge moor green jacket Posted April 27, 2025 Posted April 27, 2025 I'd be a touch surprised if Desmond goes. SS has commented about his inconsistency before, but also about his talent. Quite a regular too. He is also a wide man, which the manager has said he wants to use more next season. Quote

I've listened to Last Word and read his match report, and I didn't get that impression. Unless you're referring to the last sentence of this paragraph, which is a bit of a stretch: Steven Schumacher had just 10 senior players to pick from when the final head count was made at the team hotel on Friday. Some absences were unavoidable – Josh Dacres-Cogley, for example, was suspended, George Johnston stayed behind to be at the birth of his child, others have legitimate injuries to deal with, but it feels as if some have gone missing in action for the Bolton boss of late. The bit where Iles says that the reasons for 13 outfield players missing range from legitimate to ‘less than convincing. Bearing in mind that he can only say so much, I believe he’s making it as clear as he’s allowed….. Edited April 27, 2025 by Domcarey1 Quote
Take Hunt Off Posted April 27, 2025 Posted April 27, 2025 Santos left the building months ago. His performance at Barnsley showed that. Tutu can do one for me , any reasonable offer should be taken .Undoubtedly talented but application is pisspoor plus he’s a definite sick-note. Not sure about Dempsey , he’s injured an awful lot , probably give him the benefit of the doubt. Jones despite his limitations has at least been professional. Baxter has turned into a disinterested clown . Johnstone probably would be ok with someone like Sweeney (Burton A) stood next to him. Matette has shown up late to the party but maybe lack of game time in a more forward role has hampered him ? Quote

Matette has shown up late to the party but maybe lack of game time in a more forward role has hampered him ? Tutu is the only one who looks like he's ever going to get round the back to me. I'd be keeping him if I were SS. Santos is a huge question mark. Dempsey can only be relied on for half the games each season. Baxter is decent but I don't think we can afford to keep him and Southwold. Johnstone is a decent enough L1 defender for me. Jones's legs went half way though last season and we're going to need much better than Matete. Quote
Deanu Posted April 27, 2025 Posted April 27, 2025 (edited) Santos has been long gone for months, heads down south & hasn't wanted to be here since Wembley shit show. Dempsey will probably end up as Carlisles marquee signing in non league, really like the lad he's probably been my fave player over past few seasons but his knee is totally fucked. Baxter was one of the best keepers in the league last season, few weeks ago I'd say keep but although he stated he wants to stay it doesn't look like he does with his performances on the pitch. Johnstone I'm really not arsed about, he was going to run his contract down and leave for a free not so long ago I'd be trying to cash in on him especially if we're moving away from a back three. Gethin just looks shot to bits, his passing has always been poor but his fitness has completely spiralled & is getting rings ran round him these days. Matete has been our best player past few games but where has that been all season? There's a player there, would probably take him as a squad option Edited April 27, 2025 by Deanu Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted April 27, 2025 Posted April 27, 2025 Is that true, re Johnston? There were suggestions Stoke were having a look, but he got his bad injury. For him to have been running it down, it would mean we have since given him a new contract. We might have, but I don't recall it. Quote

Tombwfc Posted April 27, 2025 Posted April 27, 2025 Shithouse behaviour from Santos. Went from browsing job ads for Amazon to winning trophies at Wembley because of this club. Tutu I'd be surprised at. It was only the last home game that SS was pissed off at him for playing injured. Etete has never looked fit and there's more chance of me starting up front for us next season. If he is faking it he's doing us all a favour. Anyway, the only important things about these last two games is a) stopping the rot and b) seeing what we've got in terms of youth. So job done yesterday. Quote

Ani Posted April 27, 2025 Author Posted April 27, 2025 Just watched the extended highlights on EFL McAtees miss in last minute when he goes round the keeper and misses just about sums up our season. Quote
