It's worth celebrating just how unbelievably shit our beloved neighbours, the self proclaimed "greatest club of the world" have become. Compared to their insufferable spell of success under old purple nose, the current state of affairs is the stuff of dreams and could never have been foreseen in our wildest dreams

• Now 12 years without a Premier League title
• Lost their status as the club with the most Prem titles - now 20-20 with Liverpool with the scousers far likelier to get to the 21 mark in the next year or two
• NOT the most successful club in English football, Liverpool again. 
• A 15th placed finish, their lowest since being relegated to the old Division 2 in 1974 
• A stadium that is essentially crumbling having been neglected for many years.
• Finances in a mess
• Several reports this week that their support abroad (especially in Asia) is hemorrhaging 
• Beaten by a Spurs side who are even more dreadful than they are in a European final. 

Feel free to add to the above list. There must be plenty of other elements of their decline to crow about.

We've got our own woes as have most clubs. On this quiet Saturday with no footy until tonight and very little other sport of note it's worth reflecting just what depths these arrogant cunts have plumbed. What a pleasure it is to see their cretinous support base having to keep its head down and feel what it's really like to be a football fan.

The only downside is that we were in the Prem in the wrong decade. I rather suspect we'd have chalked up several memorable wins home and away if our spell had been 10 years on from the one we had.

 

I noticed they were having some poor results but i take very little interest in premier league these days, there are a few clubs that i couldn't name a single player or tell you who the manager is.

I’m not too sure. I saw us get a few wins (including the back-to-back away wins) and draws, when Man Utd were the absolute top dogs in the noughties.

One thing that struck me was the respect Ferguson had for what we and, especially, Big Sam were achieving. Contrast this with the reaction and behaviour of Arsene Wenger, as we regularly disrupted his Arsenal.

These contrasting reactions to Bolton’s performance changed my view of Ferguson somewhat and, for me, indicated why he was a great manager and Wenger was … well an arse!

Hopefully the Arabs don’t help them out with 100M for Fernandes and other clubs play hardball with them. They have about 500M to find next summer across signings instalments and loan repayments.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them in a relegation battle next season, so many smaller clubs are probably better than United these days, you could even say Fulham, Palace, Brighton etc, long may their decline continue, I really dislike glory hunters too.

I think the purple nose comment rather disrespectful, he's been a great manager , always respectful to the wanderers, turned up a nat's funeral , a mate of big Sam , does a lot of charitable work and a people person .  

You have to admit too that his team's played good football.

To be honest I not that bothered about United or any other football team . All I care about is the wanderers. I don't hate other teams , it's not worth venting your anger. We are all supporters of football , we just support teams who wear different coloured shirts .

I love the whinge about the extra stress on players having to do those exhibition games other side of the world.

It seems it got the club an extra £10M. Well if the useless cunts had finished top of the bottom half of the table instead of 15th they'd have got an extra £12M in "prize" money, so maybe the trip wouldn't have been needed (but would happen anyway). Or if they'd have turned up for the Euro final and won it then the £100M it's estimated that would eventually add to the coffers would mean they wouldn't have needed to do it (but they would have done anyway, but that's by the by).

See, if you want to earn multiples in a week of what the average person earns in a year, then maybe you'd better do your job. If you want to keep them Bentleys (his'n'hers) then maybe do some overtime after you fail the "essentials" bit of the job description.

It has always been an odd rivalry. If you can even call it that with one side not giving a shite about the other? Do they even know who we are anymore?

I despised them in my youth. But these days I’m often happier seeing City losing than United. Don’t get me wrong, it has been a nice demise to see, & was lovely watching Spurs beat them, but I think many of us just don’t care as much as we used to.

Definitely grown more respect for Fergie since he’s retired, having had more time to hear his story & achievements. 

 

I love how yoonightedd (as it is pronounced in wigan) being on tv doesn't pack the pub out on a Sunday anymore, the over celebration of every shot by  a pub full of "massive" reds was for a long time unbearable .

Never liked em, I'm well aware it was a one way 'rivalry' but while we're bobbins, it's great to see them suffering as well.  I suppose I've mellowed as I've got older and I don't bump into those glory hunting herberts you used to see in the 90s. A kid I grew up with in the 70s who was a big Wanderer actually switched allegiance to that lot in the mid 80s.  I could never get my head round that. 

Any road, another highlight- massive debt and they still owe £300m on outstanding fees for duffers they'll never get shut of! 

It's annoying for Bolton in terms of fanbase, that just while Man U are being so crap, Man City have emerged. So all the glory hunting kids still have a near-ish option to support.

But, yeah, I am enjoying their struggles.

United have never really come on my radar despite my Dad detesting them. Don’t hate the Massives but can’t stand their fans round here. Way worse than United’s

For old fuckers that remember a competitive rivalry between to 2 sides in the pre Ferguson days there's more to the animosity. For us who don't remember fully those eras it's definitely been a one sided rivalry
