Eavesy Posted February 21 Posted February 21 Not the first time Sheehan is calling for it when it’s never on in a million years. Thinks he’s better than he is Countless times he goes missing when he doesn’t have the world of time on the ball. He is the absolute portrait pin up of why we are fuxking about in this league another year. Quote
auckland_bwfc Posted February 21 Posted February 21 Aye, what grates me the most is the amount of crappy goals we concede. They often come out of nowhere and a lot of the time they're scruffy as fuckery. Teams are allowed to score scruffy goals against us, but it just seems to be a constant. Whereas our goals, the majority of the time we have to make ourselves, we dont get many freebies. Anyway, I really enjoyed blackett Taylor today, had their RWB on toast the entire first half. Sign him up. Quote
ianofcleveleys Posted February 21 Posted February 21 (edited) As things stand, our transfer window business looks a bit muddled. Not so much out wide, CBT is an upgrade on either of the other two on the left and Apter, even though yet to really make a mark, was an injury necessity. Nothing against him at all, but not sure why we brought Kenny in, when he's not sure to play much unless Dalby gets injured (and even then would compete with Burstow), and we patently needed a proper left back and a genuine DM to steady us down in situations like today and that last half hour v Barnsley. Going back to a back 4 hasn't worked, with either Johnston or Conway at LB, all the issues v Reading and today have been down that side, not helped by neither CBT or Gale being much help defensively. Edit - I'd forgotten about Rodrigues. With him and McAtee not even in the squad SS has far too many to choose from in some areas but has neglected two real priorities Edited February 21 by ianofcleveleys Quote
only1swanny Posted February 21 Posted February 21 I'm glad we didn't buy Kenny. I know he was offside but that miss, coupler with the fluffed 1 on 1 last match, he's not the player we need atm.. Quote

We've scored first quite a few times and on most occasions its changed how we've played, we've retreated. Its always about scoring the 2nd goal as well as the first (aside from late winners obviously). When its just the first goal its only stayed that way at Wimbledon and that was far from comfortable, we are a different team at 1 up and its not pretty. Quote

Noticed hardie scored today also Quote
Didledee Posted February 21 Posted February 21 Is it tactical or mental, they are shit scared of having a lead, we were 1 up and went defensive, we got it back to 2-2 and went defending again and almost lost it before we almost won it, this is a going on for far too long. Let inferior teams back in it one way or another and because we don't kill games it hurts, we were 3-0 up vs Barnsley and was like at half time oh fuck were not used to this and almost threw it away not taking chances and killing games off and scraping last minute points is never going to lead to promotion and because it's never ending, it's rather a fault of the players ability or mental or how they are told to handle situations in games which we'll probably never fully know unless someone could sneak in and listen to the team talks/training etc, perhaps a mix of all this. if you're afraid of leading Blackpool, get ready to be petrified come the playoffs. But we had to sacrifice having a 2nd striker because he drops so deep. Superb performance and delivery from corners. Personally I'd have him on the right of the midfield doing his stuff from the right and getting involved everywhere like he does, and sacrifice the disappointing (again) Apter so that we can have another forward. ianofcleveleys Posted February 21 Posted February 21 Some credit to them today, to be fair, we put 29 crosses in and 12 corners first half, a lot of them good deliveries, but they defended their box well, put bodies in the way and managed to clear on the second ball if they didn't on the first. Their subs also added something, both the first two contributed to their first goal, and seemed to wake Fletcher up, who didn't look arsed for an hour but was a handful late on Quote
Take Hunt Off Posted February 21 Posted February 21 With all the excellent crosses put in by CBT today we needed another body in the mix , Burstow is reasonable in the air plus we had eleven corners first half ! Think Apter might be a luxury we can’t afford although he did take the corner from which Toal scored . Burstow should have been on at HT for Apter or Dempsey purely on tactical grounds. The biggest worry is why we go into Corporal Jones mode when the opposition start hoofing it forward into the space behind our ‘fullbacks’.We could have lost that today precisely because we failed to calm the play down at the right time ie after we scored. We shift heaven & earth to get our noses in front & then commit hari kari . SS can’t keep brushing it off & praising his team for never giving in . It’s just not good enough. Quote
Winchester White Posted February 21 Posted February 21 Maybe it's just me but I like Apter 🤷♂️ Quote

That's a fair point, one I've considered too, while its good that we keep finding late goals the issue is putting ourselves in the positions where we're having to do it. Quote

But those 13 draws are 13 points. In EIGHT of those games we were losing in the 2nd half - twice v Lincoln, twice v Blackpool, Orient, Doncaster, Reading and Barnsley. Would it be better if we'd done a Peterboro and just lost rather than drawn so many? Drawing those games is the reason we are almost certain to be in the play offs rather than outside the play offs. Granted today was unusual as both teams led in the 2nd half and it was still a draw, unique in that respect but we were the team hanging on at the end. 3 games we can't claim to have deserved to score never mind win - Bradford, Northampton, Stevenage. Reading at home was the main frustrating one as we were streets ahead of them for most of the game. We draw games because most of the time we are no better than the other team, I'd say we should have beaten Reading twice and maybe today - but at 1-0 we were terrible for the rest of the game so its hard to say we deserved to win. Drag him 10 yards further forward and encourage him to play on the front foot and he looks a different player like he did at Wigan away. Yet we’ve gone through successive managers who keep playing him and handing him new deals without having a scooby as to how to use him. Quote

It's way too early for me, he needs a bit of time to get going and to gel but with the final stretch coming he needs to get firing soon. What I will question is that is Kenny another one of the many young talented players we have, particularly up top that lack experience. When the season is done with and we know our fate, I fear that a potential autopsy could indicate that in the big moments, our lack of experience has cost us. We have a very young side and I really think the one thing we have been missing this season is experience and especially an experienced striker that knows where the net is. I look at players like Wooton for Stockport, Marriott for Reading, even Ashley Fletcher who had 13 league goals this season. Someone who Dalby can thrive off, who btw has only just turned 26. I know he made a howler today, but players like Bonham and Christie I think we need a few more of. Quote

Eddie Posted February 21 Posted February 21 I’m not making an overall judgement on Apter, there have been too many of those, even this season, where it’s proven daft to come to a conclusion after a few games (Dalby). However, I don’t think Apter has played particularly well so far and I didn’t think he had a great game today. It just doesn’t seem to have ‘clicked’ for him yet - he’s been pretty wasteful. Feels like he just needs to get a goal or something and he’ll show what he can really do, but I’d have had him off earlier today. Quote
Hoppy Posted February 21 Posted February 21 Defensive wise in this division you need horses for courses not overlapping full backs while great to watch you need to be solid that's what all the other teams are Blackpool are a basic team but the defenders defend putting themselves in front of the goal and blocking, then getting the ball to midfield not always pretty but effective Quote

barrycowdrill Posted February 21 Posted February 21 We have just felt very lopsided attacking wise all season. Until ACDs injury an awful lot of our build up & attacks came down his side. since his injury and CBT coming in, we now feel very left sided. would give sides hell of a lot to think about and contain if we were as effective from both sides at the same time Quote
