Theres ways of doing things properly and booing the manager or singing 'Browny is a Wanderer', 'Browny's coming home' aint constructive. Megson is right, onward and upwards needs a full team effort which includes the fans :good:

Megson in plea to fans

10:20am Tuesday 11th November 2008

By Liam Chronnell ?

GARY Megson has urged fans to lay off him for the sake of the players.

The Wanderers manager believes the abuse he is receiving at the hands of some supporters is having a negative impact on the team.

He celebrated his 50th game in charge with a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Hull.

But an element of the huge Bolton support still made their anti- Megson feelings known at the KC Stadium on Saturday.

A section of the travelling fans called for Phil Brown, the former Whites assistant now in charge of the Tigers, to be the new Reebok boss.

Megson says the criticism does not bother him but that it is not helping his players.

The negative vibe flies in the face of the feelgood factor which has been created by successive victories over Manchester City and Hull which has lifted Wanderers from the bottom of the Premier League up to 11th.

?It?s like water off a duck?s back and doesn?t bother me too much,?

he said. ?I just have to cope with that, which is quite easy for me because I just stand there and try and ignore it. But it?s difficult for the atmosphere the players have to play in."

The problem with Gary Megson is that he has done everything possible to alienate any decent relationship with the Bolton fans.

If he wants to build bridges it's a start.

I know by speaking to Forest and Baggies fans they had the same problems.

The constant digs at the Bolton fans in interviews don't help.

He should be big enough to take the praise and criticism in the same way.

My main gripes with him are Lisbon and the fact he couldn't care less about the Junior Whites.

He will always say that he kept us up last yearso sacrificing UEFA cup was a necessary evil.

Not every fan is booing him at matches and he is tarring everyone with the same brush.

I personally don't like the man but whilst he is manager of BWFC he gets my support.

Sadly I think there are fans out there that want Bolton to lose matches to get Gary Megson sacked.

agreed

not keen on the bloke, but he gets my support while he's here.

for him to go means we are in a much worse position than we are now.

support Megson and support the team

Three very good points there fb. :good:

Love him or loathe him, if everyone got behind him and his team 100% - it'd be worth and extra 2 or 3 wins over the season

Exactly - he goes to the press complaining about how the fans have treated him - he has personally done nothing to try and change their minds. I too have a gripe with him for what happened in Lisbon and then at Wigan a few days later.

Until he actually makes an effort to win the fans over - there will always be those calling for his head.

He'll get even more grief on Saturday when we get beat.

If the team give it a right go, not one bolton fan will boo, it is putting in below par performances against the likes of blackburn and west brom that upset people, in the main Bolton fans are very fair.

He'll deserve it if we can't beat that shower of shite.

They'd be rubbing rags this season if they'd not spent ?600m in the last couple of years.

No, because we havent played them yet.

Come 3pm Saturday they will have.

I would not put your money on it I think we can get a positive result, the team at the moment look very together, Nolan will be back and I think with a passionate backing we can give liverpool a fair bit of trouble.

I get it from my head.

Ie The prediction threads.

I predict we will lose.

I predict Megson will get grief.

I'd rather us win.

what you class as 'an effort to win the fans over'?

I believe he has not been to any BWSA meetings since he was appointed?

Big Sam and even little Sam turned up every 2 or 3 months.

I get the feeling he is only interested in first team affairs and sees anything else, be it reserves, youth team, junior whites as someone elses resonsibility.

Although many were against his appointment in the first place, even though most would agree he was better than the small scouse person, he made one fatal mistake: He dared to play the second team, even though the team was made up of players within the first team squad, in Portugal. His reasons were understood by all; to rest the first 11 in order that they are fresh enough to beat Wigan 3 or 4 days later. If the first teamers had gone to Wigan and won, Megson's team selection would have been seen as a masterstroke. Let's not go on about people paying to go to Lisbon to see Bolton win, they went for the craic as much as they went for the football; same for every UEFA Cup away game.

Anyway, he came to keep us up and, eventually, did just that. Did he get any praise for this? No! The consensus on here was that he'd done a job but must now be replaced. People cited the Lisbon game and the negative tactics; any reason they could find. The Wanderers board aren't particularly known for being hatchet men. God forbid we were a club like Newcastle who can have as many as three or four managers in twelve months! Anyway, Gartside was never going to sack him for succeeding where Sammy Lee had failed.

I'm not for a minute saying we should sing throughout the Liverpool game that hes our Ginger Mourinho or anything but certainly no booing . . . whatever the result. Let's be honest, a home loss against Liverpool is never going to be the end of the world is it?

Can you blame him really?

a smile a joke a kind word would be a start as would making players attend family days, addressing the fans as "This lot will never like me" is not going to help is cause, let's have it right he has fallen luckily into a really good job, we could have easily attracted somebody with a better track record, this is the root of the dislike of Megson, I think Megson is finally getting round to a beter style of football, results are improving, I hope his tenure goes from strength to strength and we build on the platform of Allardyce's time in charge.
