Electric Gretar Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 I would also add, in the UEFA cup jaunt last year, he played the `2nd XI` for the final 3 games of that campaign. There were 2 things that really went against him there. 1. that bunch of `2nd XI` players pulled 2 unlikely wins out of the bag and 2. when we finally lost due to this policy the 1st XI put in a spineless performance at pie eaters the following weekend. .....ergo he was a victim of his own successful policy. As for keeping us up - you won`t find a bigger optimist than me and I was 100% sure we were down. Astounding feat to keep us up. Truly astonishing piece of management to dig us out of that hole, particularly after the 3-2 reverse to the Arse What a bloody good post
Mounts Kipper Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Not a lot to ask for really,is it? Megson will be manager of the month for november. YHIHF. only if redknapp dies by the end of November.

L/H White Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Cos I like you, I will give you one last chance, are you seriously gonna back against Harry Redknapp? Think..
Zico Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 those giving him in game grief should get off his back i was as f?cked off as most after Everton and the other 0-0s but, most agreed after arse and man u that he could have the next 6 games to get things back on track and to be fair, 10 points from 15 has done that ok, the next 4 games will be tough and with the league being tighter than a gnat's chuff we are going to have to pull one or two results out the hat but as he says, we need to stop giving him sh?t and get behind the players, I reckon he's earned that with the last two results 4 defeats in a row and you're free to get on his back again
Casino Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Really!!! I didnt want the bloke as I didnt think it was the right appointment if we want to be more than relegation fodder each season or even worse a yo yo team. He started to win me round that maybe he could prove me wrong. Then Lisbon and Wigan happened. He lost me that week. Yes we stayed up some of it our own doing some of it other teams self destruction. Im not convinced with his signings and Im certainly not convinced about his attitude to the fans. Ie FAMILY fun day farce, Junior whites incidents, Goldline/Lifeline parties etc This never happened under Allardyce aye, course it didn't lets start with fcuking plovdiv
M G WHITES Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Cos I like you, I will give you one last chance, are you seriously gonna back against Harry Redknapp? Think.. No you crack pot,i am not betting you ?100 that Megson gets manager of the month,i am on about the ?100 you will owe me come April when we are safe.
Big E Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Well he didnt ruin my Hull weekend so I'm mates with him again now, ginger bollocks or no ginger bollocks. here here. back to back wins and he probably loves a good fingering tune too.
Juan.Kerr Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 I've said it before and by crikey I'll say it again, he's not the man for the job. I don't know who is, but it's not Gary Megson. However when criticism gets personal, as it has now, it's not on.It doesn't help at all. For what it's worth, there's them on here with a case of the Emperors new clothes syndrome - he's shite, off with his head - yes that's what I say too, then the day after it's give him a chance, he's not that bad - yes that's what I say too. What a difference six points and two cases of unblemished bedlinen makes. Or does it?
clown Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 The problem with Gary Megson is that his appointment was a startling admission of mediocrity. No football fan wants that. Unsuccessful and oft unloved at all previous clubs Megson was deemed satisfactory for our beloved club and came with the patronising tag line that if we knew owt we'd know that he was good (suggesting that we didn't). After Lisbon, when the light inside all of us dimmed a little, it was always going to be an uphill struggle. But, as always, the transfer window is nearly upon us and he'll get one more chance to excite us and stir up the passion that Okocha, Djorkaeff, Hierro et al have made us desire. Here's hoping!

Truly astonishing piece of management to dig us out of that hole, particularly after the 3-2 reverse to the Arse I think the key point in Lisbon that while the game was going against us at 1-0 down with the lesser players, Megson did nothing to use his more experienced and influential subs to win the game , he was quite content to see us slip out of the competition . Disgraceful. Astonishing feat to keep us up, you're having a laugh, the players rallied round and got us out of it despite Megson. Fancy working as a government spin doctor?
enzo gambaro Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 you won`t find a bigger optimist than me I don't know about that. Zozzy is relentlessly optimistic (despite his glass being half empty most of the time) and he's massive.

This topic is now as interesting and outward looking as inspecting the fluff in your navel. We have the man till the end of the season at least, so there's no point in getting on his back if we want to stay up.

Traf Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 So, mart32: We stayed up despite Megson, but if we go down it'll be because of Megson. You are a tool.

If you're suggesting that he's got his logic wrong he hasn't. If you've got a millstone round your neck you can survive despite it, but drown because of it.
Happy Wanderer Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 there are no links between club and fans and reports are that he does not think it is important for players to build these, well if we aint important when it comes to a family fun day, supporters meeting etc etc then why are we important when he decides ? Spot on. I think you will find that some people at the club where taken back by his approach to the event and indeed distroyed bridges that had been built. It's all his own doing and I have no respect for him. Someone has already mentioned Sporting Lisbon and that was the straw that broke the camels back for me. We could have beat Sporting as they where there for the taking. My dreams where shattered along with many others. Megson acts like he is only bothered about the players and winning games, well I tell you what, this is a town team with real fans who put money into the club and have supported the team all their lives and will remain loyal to the club when Megson has long gone. The club, manager/players alike would do well to remember who the supports the club.
MickyD Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Managers come and managers go but fans are fans forever! In fact, can one of our resident song-thread experts do something with that line? It just happens to scan the same as "I can't read and i can't write but I can drive a tractor."

Disgraceful. The subs that night: Nathan Woolfe, Ian Walker, Daniel Braaten, Zoltan Harsanyi, Scott Jamieson, Robert Sissons, James Sinclair Megson left his experienced and influential players in the departure lounge at Manchester Airport.

Tyler Durden Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 The problem with Gary Megson is that his appointment was a startling admission of mediocrity. Problem is.... we are a mediocre club. We get championship crowds and don't have the potential to be anything more than what we now are - a mid-table Premiership club who'll have the odd good cup run and the odd European tour.

Fancy working as a government spin doctor? thing is some people just do not like megson, for whatever reason. to change peoples perceptions is an impossible task. if he is nt bothered about the fans opnions then shut up moaning about them. it is like one of your mates does something daft you accept it and laugh if it is someone you do nt like you say they are a knobhead. some people (like me)post shit on here and nothing is said others get hammered for the slightst error. if we do well it is despire megson if we lose it is his fault. if we make a chnage after injury and it works he is lucky if it does nt it is because he does not have cover on the bench. by keeping us up at the first attempt starting behind the others he did a better job than sam you could argue, given the players and money he had should never have been so close.
