It just goes to show that Capello has no interest in calling Davies up he has included Davies in the 28 to appease the press and pundits and to send out the message that he will consider any player even a kicker from that shitty little club who cannot play football.

Still & all, I'd like Bent to drop something on his foot today - nothing serious, just something to put him out for a week.

Nothing against Bent, I just want to see who Capello would call up next : Owen on crutches ? Don't West Ham have a couple of English strikers with about 5 Prem games between them ? Surely Chelsea have an English striker somewhere in their juniors ?

If the current top-scoring English striker in the Prem isn't rated in the top five or so for England, I want to see who is .....

<_<

Darren Bent been called into the England squad for Wednesday, Heskey is a major doubt, why call up someone who has spent all season on the fooking bench, Davo should tell Capello where to stick it!

There are already at least 2 threads for this, merging.

Surely Nugent, he's already scored twice this season and is obviously worth another look!

I,m with you on that BB. I,d sooner he prolonged his career with Bolton. I dont think the Ricketts debut was disastrous though, perhaps his career afterwards was. He only got 45 mins didnt he?

I thought he was terrible, if must of been worse for those who didnt have a cake from the coffee shop earlier

If he got called up he'd get injured and we'd all be slagging Capello off. That or he'd miss a chance, England would fail to qualify for the WC and it'd all be Kevin Davies' fault. Fuck them.

Heskey pulled out now too, bbc sayin capello may bring in another striker

From the Beeb:

Capello has already ruled out Michael Owen or Kevin Davies joining the squad.

"Owen played 20 minutes in his last game, it is not enough, and it would not be Kevin Davies either," said Capello.

He doesn't even give a reason for SKD! Can anyone find the proper interview for this?

As mentioned above, what is the point of the extended squad if it is simply going to be ignored. It seems that Davies is a like for like swap with both Heskey and Crouch. Maybe Davies will make it as a last minute into the 2010 squad and do a Geoff Hurst in the latter stages of the competition ;)

When he was playing well for us, before his head turned, I'd take him over Elmander any time.

dunno why you choose to highlight elmander

maybe its because megson signed him?

fwiw, id take ricketts over just about any striker ive seen play for bolton

I saw one interview when Capello said more or less the above... Owen needs to play more. He didn't mention Davies

It is a bit of a farce that he likes his big strikers but won't pick the best one

I'd rather have Davies than Crouch, Cole, or Heskey. He's far more intelligent and effective than any of those players. He is arguably a better goalscorer than any of them too. He is certainly better in the air and better as a target man.

Fair enough, if Crouch is used properly he's very hard to stop and prolific in goals and assists

He has struggled to adapt in teams that aren't built around him though

The more I think about it, the more I think Davies could do a good job in Capello's England 4-4-2

And yes, I would say a better job than Crouch... in this particular England side

and id swap davies for bent or crouch tomorrow
possibly only because of the age difference. In today's market they would obviously be worth more money.

You wouldn't rate them higher at their peak though ??

You are touchy, arent you. Nothing to do with Megson, just comparing our current striker who actually cost us a lot of money, with a past striker who often gets a bad press.

I was at OT and Highbury when Ricketts scored and he scared the life out of both defences.

Maybe because Elmander is the current imcumbant ?

Or perhaps you have developed some sort of paranoia and see shadows where none exist ?

aye, maybe

or maybe because almost every post since young russell has arrived has had some dig at megson, the club, or wanderersways

lets see how things progress
