I think Megson has done a good job, but I can obviously see where people get upset with him, and I understand their point of view. I've no problem with that.

Where this all go's out the window, is when someone comes out with 'he's ruining the club', or other such statement.

13th in the league....... wow we're fucking ruined. What melodramatic bollocks.

I wonder if Albion, Boro or Newcastle would have preferred the season we've just had? Still, they saw some exciting football eh?

So what your saying is your happy to watch this tedious excuse for football as long as we are in the premiership?.................words fail me!

why not sit at home look at the table?

West brom got relegated playing football. last match of the season 2-0 down to Liverpool the fans were singing the managers name, are you saying they are deluded?

They supported the manager why?

They are the next generation off calling the team 'The Stiffs' They will soon be sulking if we lose our best players because of the negative vibes

If we sell any good players this summer it will be because they want to better themselves (eg Anelka), or the club thinks it's a good deal (eg Nolan). or the club is desperate for the cash (eg Gudjohnsen) ......... it won't be anything to do with 'negative vibes', which happen at all clubs.

That's the real world.

West brom got relegated playing football.

Reported on the radio today (Sunday) that -

Newcastle have a turnover of ?100 million and a debt of ?34 million (after Ashley had cleared their previous debt of ?70 million).

Their wage bill is ?70 million

15 players are paid ?50,000 per week or more - and non of them have a clause in their contract for reducing their pay now that they are in the Championship!

They will lose ?40 million Sky money from being relegated out the Premiership - they will now only get ?2.5 million in the Championship! (ok plus a parachute payment of about ?10 million for each of the next two years (didn't help Charlton much whose parachute payment ran out last week just as they dropped into the third division!).

So in simple terms as it stands - their income will not cover their expenditure!

Mike Ashley is reported to have pumped in ?230 million of his own money into the club!

Newcastle are in a fcuking mess. This potentially as the makings of a Leeds Part 2 - Administration is a real possibility - watch this space!

I think their fans would happily have "watch this tedious excuse for football as long as we are in the Premiership" I'm certain their owner would!

Middlesborough are ?80 million in debt - and had no money to buy anyone in the January transfer window!

They to are going to lose ?37.5 million simply for being relegated (not including the parachute payment) - most of the debit is to Steve Gibson - so they are not in anything like the position Newcastle are - but again I'm sure Gibson now wished he had seen a season of "tedious excuse for football" if it had got him 13th place!

Eddie Davies owns Bolton - he won't want to take a massive financial hit like Ashley and Gibson - so don't get your hopes up for Brazilian style football at the Reebok next season!

Megson has been given a job to do - and he has done it efficiently for two seasons now! Not pretty I grant you - but it is what the owner wants - the fans can either endure it or leave - that is how the Premiership is these days.

I hate it but what can you do? Walk away if you want - I can't blame you but things simply won't change whilst there is so much money at risk!

But look at some of the teams above us, stoke, Wigan, Fulham we need to start looking at the teams above us and wishing to be in their place instead of looking at the bottom 3 and thinking thank god that is no us.

Megson or shearer, For me no contest.... Ginge any day :good: and i'm not his biggest fan but he's what we've got and he's what we'll have come the end of august. I'm certainly not gonna spend my summer whining about him keeping us up.

...and the three clubs you name are just as likely to finish below us next season. Stoke will have been sussed; Fulham are up and down like a whores drawers and we can only hope that the piemen implode.

I have seen enough this season to conclude that, with some shrewd recruitment (again), we can finish above those clubs and attain a higher place than this seasons 13th.

That is an easy choice. Even the biggest Megson critics wouldn't choose Shearer over the ginger mourinho would they?

Is there anyone who posts on here brave enough to say they would rather have Shearer?

On another place, they preferred Barry Knight to GM, so anything's possible!

I was there yesterday but wont be going to many next season if whats on offer is like this season - we are boring the pants off our fans and there are many like me who hate Megson for what he's doing and most of them wont be going.

Pansy is correct we might as well just sit at home and look at the table

A disappointing season overall with relegation stuff apart from a few weeks last November. The away form the past 6 months has been terrible, Davo and Taylor went right off the boil after all the England hype.

That team should have been freshened up weeks ago, instead we had Gary Megson moaning at the end of every game about tired legs. What would have been wrong with a few fresh faces yesterday?

Coventry and Southampton flirted with relegation for three or four seasons before eventually going down. Unless we can get four or five good players in or the coaching staff do what they are paid to do and improve those players, we are on the same route.

I sat in the city end on the halfway line, our support was better than theres FACT. regarding Megson and his tactics yesterday we were solid for all the 90 minutes, and with a bit of confidence Muamba and Elmander could have scored, I continue to reservedly back megson as he has done the job required i.e. keep us up with a very small wage bill and squad, however I cannot understand and am very annoyed with a few of his decisions, namely continuing to play Elmander up top this is complete madness in my eyes the lad clearly lacks confidence and cannot play this lone role, 10 minutes from time he drags Elmander off and puts Davo up top who as usual creates a couple of chances which should have lead to the equaliser, secondly his use of subs is dreadful we were crying out for a bit of pace in the team we are so pedestrian it is unbelievable, Riga is no world beater but he can stretch teams with his pace, as usual he gives him 8 minutes this is unforgiveable, as i said I continue to support megson but it is a close call, the above plus his refusal to build bridges with the fans do not go down well in my eyes, and I would certainly not be too disappointed if we brought someone in with a connection to the club and who has the neccesary experience, mind you that will not be a long list.

I will agree with you there and the home form as not been much better at times but to say we could be the next Southampton is

taking in a bit far,we will sign player's and do a lot better next season to that i am sure

You could well be right MG. Not wanting to reopen the Elmander debate, he needs to find his position next season. He isnt strong enough to be a lone striker and Davo is wasted trying to play wide right. As well as new players, there needs to be a new mind set among Manager/coaches on how we want to play.

I don't buy this argument that we play boring football because of Megson. What position does he play? Is he on the pitch passing it back to the keeper?

He has bought Cahill and Muamba to defend and they play to keep a clean sheet every week no matter how many goals we score ourselves. He bought Elmander and Taylor who haven't got a defensive bone in their body, they are there to score and create goals. They are playing against premiership quality defenders who's job it is to keep clean sheets.

Our most successful years in recent times were under Big Sam. Did we play attractive entertaining football? or did we get a lot of points by playing to our strengths?

Do people actually think that Gary Megson spent all that money on Elmander and Taylor to sit back and play for nil nil every week?

I enjoyed going to Wet Ham and Sunderland in the league and getting entertained, we got the entertainment and the points, if I had a choice though, I would choose the points with just one scabby goal.

Maybe most of the Megson critics just go to the Home games, which is where our most disappointing performances have been, and didn't travel to Sunderland, Boro and West Ham to see plenty of chances created. Maybe these same critics went to Blackburn and City because it is on the doorstep just to give shit while the match is going on, to the embarrassment of the ordinary SUPPORTER.

I have my criticisms of Megson including his manner with the Press and Fans, but give the bloke a break, he has done more good than bad.

Zozzy, I think you write well and logically, but there's a bit of Ostrich mentality with this post. I think the boring tag goes back to the start of the season. JOB, Nolan, Muamba, McCann/Taylor being our midfield, none of whom have a creative bone in their body, exception Taylor's set pieces.

Two tedious 0-0 draws against Rovers and WBA seemed to set the tone. I went to Sunderland, enjoyed the day out, also went to Spurs, Villa, Stoke, Anfield and Goodison where the worst of Gary Megson's tactics were on show. Like it or not, he does pick the team, works out the tactics/formation in advance.

I can understand the view that he's kept us up, but bloody hell it's painful to sit through.

That is where the problem lies for me. Everyone can see that the team needed a few changes, and I'm sure Megson could see that too. BUT WHO??

After our first 11 we have a very poor squad, with the exception of possibly 1 or 2 players. Megson knew he would have this problem when he got rid of 25 players and brought in 9! But he had to do it, he had to get rid of all that shite, however it then meant that we would have to go through this season with very few alternatives to our first 11.

For me this is the main reason he is getting so much stick for his tactics. If he can see that a player is low on confidence, or on a poor run i.e. Elmander, then who are you going to replace him with? And before you say Smolarek, Makka Pakka etc. lets not be silly, they are obviously wank, and an out of form Elmander will give more to the team than either of them 2.

So for me it all comes down to re-building the squad in the summer now that he has his base. With 4 or 5 additions along with keeping our better players (Cahill mainly), then next year we will have alternatives and competition for places, and I hope to god that this means we won't have to play so negatively.

Indeed so

There are millions of geordies looking forward to seeing their team build/dismantle for at least one season in the Championship

Megson is reported this morning as saying that the current squad will be relegated next season and he needs to strengthen the side. Last week he went to the Isle of Man to see Eddie Davies. Now we don't know what the outcome of this meeting was but if Megson told Davies that relegation is a distinct possibilty then I would think Megson will have been promised funds to buy some new players. Look out for exciting developments this summer. On the other hand Davies might well have told Megson that no money was available and Megson was preparing his excuses for next season. I don't go along with that as surely Megson would resign if that was the case and not have to put up with the vilification he would definitely get.

and for me that will always happen...

he will never ever win over the majority of fans...

and i believe it is a majority....you speak to very few Bolton fans who agree with anything he does...in fact i have never had a face to face conversation with a supporter of Megason...just about twenty on here who support him...

I support him but we don't bang on about it every post!

It isn't Megson whose boring its you lot.

-Take money

-Slag the fans for the teams poor form

-And eventually run, rubbing his hands with glee

He's building a decent squad, but is a wank manager.
