BoltonPro15 Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 couldnt of put it any better Jussi had one save to make (in the first half.) Similar in many way to watching sufc trying to break us down. Championship quality. I agree that we seem to be improving at the back. we seemed to have a man over more regularly. and the number of times that two of our men went for the same ball suggests to me that they are committed. Zat Knight seems to be growing in confidence, as long as he keeps it simple. The midfield frustrates me. particularly muamba who has the athleticism to run all day and get into good attacking positions, but never looks like having the quality to finish a chance or a move off? Up front I think Klasnic is a box player and a genuine goal threat. Chongy also frusrates due to the lack of the killer cross, but you would sooner have him playing for you than against. I see the roots of improvement in elmander. he seems to have grown in stature, confidence and pace since OC arrived. though it hurts me to say it, but SKD is on borrowed time. I have enjoyed all that he brings and he has been one of the top hard men and battering rams for many a year. But I think this should be his final year with us. He still has limited physical qualities but his touch is waning. I will be surprised if OC doesn't replace him in the summer. The current bottom three will go down, Its a great time to play liverpool COYWM
superbobby Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 The no clean sheet stat looked like a mill stone towards the end as the defence looked more and more shakey. Hopefully with the mill stone gone the defence will calm down in future. How was that Burnley player allowed to play on (he was already on a yellow) after the tackle on Cohen?

Fcuking digraceful tackle that. Ref 5 metres away with a clear view and did sod all. Elliott should have been straight off. Burnley are pants. Definite relegation fodder. DeaneWhite Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 Goalkeeper: Managed to claim a few crosses and corners. The clean sheet may help his confidence. Defence: Shaky towards the end- otherwise quite solid. Zat Knight seemed like a proper centre half. Again, the clean sheet may inspire confidence. Midfield: Lee outstanding and cracking goal. Taylor seemed a waste of space. Muamba was better, but still needs more to his game. Weiss impressed me in his brief cameo appearance; he will go far. Attack: SKD missed a couple of easy chances and booked for nothing (again). His crossing needs work. Klasnic really needs to get fit. If he can sort that out and play for 90 mins he will grab us many more goals before the season's out. Jury still out on Elmander. He needs to tune in to what Lee is doing. Lee played some decent balls to him but he ran the other way. He would have probably scored but for his team mates getting in the way. Crowd: Electric atmosphere- decent effort, but can do better!
jolly-olly Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 I thought Zat Knight was absolutely outstanding last night. I have seen massive improvements in his play and confidence since Coyle too over. Not sure if this is coincidence or if it is simply down to man management. I thought Davies and Taylor had poor games. Elmander did well for the spell he was on. Muamba played well in stages for me but I just think he gets too excited when he gets space and fluffs his final pass or effort on goal. I thought Ricketts' long throws were dangerous, better than a corner in my opinion. Burnely were shocking and their honeymoon is now over. They are going down and Coyle knows this even if he had stayed. Ps. I loved his reference to biblical characters when he said last year I was God now I am Judas but I should be Moses because I have led them from the wilderness. Love it Owen.
tylswhite Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 I thought we played ok last night, weve played better and lost! LMAO. Burnley were horrific, we had some good spells and looked solid at the back though so we can take a lot more than 3 points from the game imo. Roll on Liverpool.

Is there ever any top football in local derbies? Not in the ones against Burnley that I recall. It always used to be a 0-0 on Boxing Day. We scrapped well and got a result.
tarian1979 Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 yeah they did. knight seems to be settling in and making a decent partnership with cahill. steinsson is getting back to his best after getting a run in the team. only prob with ricketts playing at left back is that we would have both samuel and robinson as other left backs in the squad and no other cover at right back. playing samuel in left midfield like against SUFC on saturday doesn't really work too well plus (hopefully) left mid is where vladi weiss will get a run. did very well in his 30 sec cameo and enarly set up a 2nd goal. looks a good prospect and seeing on a few forums man city fans seem to think he is a very good talent and a future star of citeh. hope for our sake he shows that potential in the next 4 months! that was the best defensive display for a while. I agree. Id continue to play that back four until the summer. Still dont think its the long term answer. Didnt think the centre midfielders performed very well at all. We're crying out for someone who can put their foot on the ball. Taylor had a bad game too. A wins a win though.
Guest bwfcdan Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 Midfield: Lee outstanding and cracking goal. Taylor seemed a waste of space. Muamba was better, but still needs more to his game. Weiss impressed me in his brief cameo appearance; he will go far. He wasnt outstanding by a long short. He needs to work on his crossing, but he did look very dangerous at times and took his goal well..
Boltimore Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 Not a great game but right result. It was difficult due to the surrounding circumstances. Lee was the only real quality on the pitch. Weiss was man of the match for me!! We should start him and Lee at Liverpool and go at them.
HomerJay Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 jussi, did he touch the ball? knight was simply immense! never thought i would say that. cahill, not as good as knight! never thought i would say that. ricketts at left back, with THREE leftbacks on the bench. WHY? steinsson, stop oofing it clear and try and find a man ffs. lee only touched the ball about three times in the whole of the second half, but had a decent 1st half. taylor worked hard, put some decent balls in the box, but still lacked any real quality that he IS capable of. muamba, he loves to get forward but then doesnt have a clue what to do when he gets there. you certainly cant question his heart and desire. cohen, solid performance as always. davies.....hmmm. did ok with what was asked of him. klasnic, not really a game for him. elmander, not really a game for him either weiss. 2 touches, 2 nutmegs, genious!
Chris T. Church Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 Suprised Davies played both the Shef U and Burnley games, looks very tired imo. Solid team performance last night, there was only one team going to win that match, I don't think they even had a half chance in the second half, well played Zat Knight also.
tylswhite Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 He wasnt outstanding by a long short. He needs to work on his crossing, but he did look very dangerous at times and took his goal well.. The quicker you admit that you were wrong about Chungy the better because you are fighting a losing battle. We would be bottom if it wasnt for him, he has been our best player this season and was the best player on the pitch last night.
Horwich Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 Chungy was quiet in the 2nd half, but didnt see alot of the ball. Cahill MOM for me. Won everything.
mickbrown Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 Burnley fans (I presume) gave my car a kicking last night so hope the feckers go down.

Its becoming a problem this. 4/5 seasons ago we would have been all over that game as far as singing goes but now its difficult to get the old songs going. The first 2 blocks in the ESL from the south stand used to be full of lads 20+ who knew all the old songs. I remember that first Wigan game at the Reebok, we created a really intimidating atmosphere. It seems that alot of the old faces have handed their badges in since then and most of the seats have been snapped up by young lads paying ?49 a ST. Now there isnt anything wrong with that but the change over of supporters has been that rapid that alot of the songs have not been passed down and its difficult for us to build an atmosphere up. Thought the attendance was disapointing last night but hopefully we will start to see the old guard trickle back in and get the bug again. Great result and i can see us finishing 10th 11th with a cup semi final at Wembeley.
surrey_white Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 overall it was a poor game, but the result is all that matters, knight impressed me again just wish he could head the ball to a white shirt once in a while, muamba was his usual solid self as was cohen. Hopefully this Weiss bloke can play left wing as all our play comes down the right hand side, chung-yong is our most/only creative player but his final ball needs to improve. Onwards and upwards

You cant knock them lads down there because they create an atmosphere every game, its rest of the ground thats shit. The west lower corner near south had a bit going last night too but thats it. As for the North lower singing stand lets just say thats an idea thats gone tits up.
birch-chorley Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 The atmosphere is not even close to what it used to be 4/5 years ago, most of them young lads dont know most of the songs so it is difficult trying to get anything going.

What songs would you like to get going? The repertoire is now: We are the one and only Wanderers Owen Owen coyle, he gets the ball . . . Owen Coyle's Super White Army Drum, Drum, dru, dru dru dru dru Drum - CHEAT! Oh Wanky Wanky! Can't think of too many more I've heard since we got to the reebok <Insert other manager names into song 3>

Debatable whether he was MOM last night (in top 2 or 3 though for sure). Certainly first half he played well, 2nd half was a bit quiet
Guest Frandsen08 Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 zat knight was MOM for me in the last 2 games. do we still have an official MOM? it used to be decided by text didnt it?
