I don't really post on here, but...

According to those 'building the future' propoganda they put about in 96-97, and according to Phil Brown (first person conversation) there are 29,350 seats in the Reebok.

The official capacity must therefore exclude all those seats that would have to be covered for segregation purposes. 627 seats are therefore the minimum number covered up. The record of 28,353 v Leicester may well have required more seats to be covered and should be classed as a capacity crowd. Realistically, anything over 25,000 is a capacity crowd, allowing for unused tickets. If unreserved seating is in force, the maximum capacity allowable is at least 10% less than the actual stadium capacity, so around 25,000 anyway.

Perspective on this; if Megson were still here, we would have struggled to get 18,000- let alone the 23,000+ people are expecting.

I'm beginning to suspect someone hasn't moved on......

There are three different bands the attendance figure could have fallen into:

1. <20,000: He-who-shall-not-be-named still in charge/ did too much damage while in charge and club is in deep deep trouble

2. 20,000-25,000: Coyle in- heated derby- new man popular but people (understandably) cautious and club slowly recovering

3. >25,000: Massive Coyle factor- club recovering quickly (but unsustainably quickly, perhaps?)

Towards the top end of 2. is about right and as it should be.

Just get over it, you'll feel better. Trust me.

If you have a row with the missus, do you still say stuff like "and another thing..." at the breakfast table the next day?

What would the crowd be if it wasn't being shown at virtually every pub in Bowton and surrounding areas?

Probably a total sell out. Most matches are shown (albeit illegally) in most pubs. But given that it makes a bigger difference to the pubs than it would really make to the club, I couldn't blame people for supporting their "local". Of couse, that couldn't be further from those people's minds- they are generally just cheapskates! Television money may be making those in the game rich, but it has all but killed off traditional support. Before the days of virtually every match being televised, the Reebok would simply not have been big enough. We would probably be looking at over 40,000 for this game. Certainly well over 30,000. Sadly, the days of 40,000+ at Burnden are nothing but a distant memory in this media age. In many ways, we have to be grateful we get any supporters at all, given the proximity of two of the big four plus Citeh!

I don't have rows with the missus- mind you, we are still less than a year into our marriage!

Believe me, the ginger to$$er is long since gone from my life. I was merely putting things into perspective. Given our average attendance so far, 23,000 to 24,000 against Burnley would be a step in the right direction. A step only- there is a long wayto go before we return to home sellouts every week. And maybe that's not too bad a thing. A steady increase might be sustainable- a big sellout once for a hyped game like this is not.

5,000 Burnley to start of the count

On the official website its SOLD OUT in 4 blocks in the ESL but its green (plenty of availibity) in 9 blocks around the ground, so I think its going to be yet another Bolton let down.

Its now impossible for us to sell-out a home game, so those predicting over 25,000 are in dream land.

23,652 for me.

Exactly my thoughts Mr Yates

Home fans seem to be steady at around 16-18,000- well down on the 23,000 we are capable of. I am making allowances for opposition fans and also allowing the usual home fan drop that we get for midweek games due to people simply being unable to make it. Season ticket holders tend to miss some evening games- especially those who no longer live in Bolton. You can probably account for work commitments and the fact that it's a category b fixture against a newly promoted club taking a couple of thousand off for a normal midweek game. That leaves you at the lower end (16,000 home fans) plus their 5,000. As a newly promoted club and for a derby, it would be difficult to estimate their attendance in any case without the Coyle Factor. If we say 2,500 of them and 16,500 of us, we would be looking at 18,000. Maybe 19,400 with the derby factor (an extra 1000 of us and 400 of them). Our maximum support in that case is 17,900. Add in the 5,000 we know they are bringing and the total would be 22,900. Therefore anything over 23,000 would definitely be a very small step in the right direction. Anything over 24,000 is progress. The often predicted 23,500 would show a decent increase. It will not be until the end of the season when we will know for sure, as many people already have made alternative plans for this season. I'm sure people will be keeping their diaries clear on matchdays more often from now on.

Well, at least we got the highest attendance of the season so far- pipping the Arsenal game by around 100. From what I could tell, there were fewer than the predicted 5,000 Dingles, so over 19,000 home fans on a cold January night for a basement battle is good- especially as it would have been a category c game but for the proximity of the two clubs. If it had been category c, I have no doubt we would have broken the 25,000 barrier.

If we take my guidelines from a previous post, it would appear that people are slowly returning. We'll just have to see what difference the cut-price tickets make for the Fulham game. Last year we got 22,117 for that fixture, which came 10 days after losing at Stoke City.

It's a start. Now to those who are able to turn out for that game who weren't thinking of going- there are no excuses. The game on 6th Feb is cheaper than it was in the last couple of years at Burnden! The Fanzone is also on for that game. I know it doesn't quite have the tension of the visit of Burnley, but let's try and recreate last night's atmosphere.
