I do.

I prefer the ?10 to be in my pocket.

Apparently it's not a victimless crime:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/3887189.stm

DVD piracy is a lucrative part of a wider network that involves criminal gangs, drug dealers, people smugglers, paedophile rings and even terrorists. They say it is an easy way for gangs to raise funds for their other criminal activities. Gangs can earn 10 euros (?6.65) for each euro invested in piracy, and a kilogram (35 ounces) of pirate DVDs is worth more than a kilogram of cannabis resin, according to authorities

Just saying like.

.. or alternatively, some geek in his bedroom is file sharing. Not sure that it's fair to say he's involved with drug dealing, people smuggling, paedo rings or terrorism.

Oh, and the government couldn't possibly be using scare tactics because they're losing out on income. JSL.

Used to be an area manager for Global Video. I lost my job purely down to piracy!

Nb is right not a victimless crime.

Sorry to hear that mate, genuinely.

... but surely you don't expect your average Joe to pay for something just to keep the cogs of industry turning? Especially when it's as dear to hire a DVD as it is to actually go to the cinema?

Oh, and if I download a film and hand over no money, who is the victim?

So, in what world is everything free for Average Joe? Did you do economics at school? You've lost me on this one.

Where have I said that?

I asked if your average man on the street is offered something for free would you'd expect him to turn in down out of some moral obligation to the country's economy. Simple question, or so I thought.

To be fair, you lost your job due to the industry being modernised.

The kindle etc will do the same to books.

They are shutting libraries left right and centre round here.

Not after sympathy each to their own and all that I don't do it never have never will. collect DVDs so it's a bit diffrrnt I guess but it is flippant to suggest that it's victimless that's all. As you were.

Not got round to watching H Centipede yet. Think all the hype may have ruined it for me tho I'm expecting to much now.

Modernised as in if you can steal a copyrighted product then go ahead?

Not really modernised tho is it? Just makes copyright infringement more acessable to the masses.

Anyways like I said as you were.

You're clearly being pedantic.

Please point out where I said everything is free.

You didn't,I was being facetious regarding your point as if we took the attitude yours regarding cogs of industry for everything, all our jobs'll fucked pretty quickly.

Posted (edited)

You didn't.

Thank you. I'm glad we eventually cleared that up.

You've obviously never borrowed a book, copied a cd, taped a tape, etc I presume?

No, modernised as in Blockbuster/Lovefilm etc etc will stream films direct to your tele, PPV is readily available with Virgin/Sky/BT etc.

Just as Itunes and MP3 players killed record shops.

Video shops have been doomed for a long long time now unfortunately.

It's half price on Tuesdays and on Wednesdays you'll see all the scrotes with their mobile phones out (Orange Wednesdays = 2 for 1).

I pay ?15 per month for an unlimited card at Cineworld. It enables me to sleep contently.

used to have a cineworld pass miself, was ?11 bout 5 years ago

am on Orange but would rather pay full price on a Tues than go my local cineworld on a Wednesday as you lose about 2 hours of your life queueing for tickets and a parking space then trying to get off car park at the end

Agreed. Pisses me off that I have to queue amongst these vermin. I once asked, in all seriousness, why I don't have the right to go straight to the front of the queue seeing as I'm putting money into their coffers each and every month.

The minimum wager behind the desk simply shrugged.
