no balls Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 I'm sure Coyle has mentioned previously that only players who want to play for the club will play and that's why some people have questioned his team choices. So, which ones do you think didn't care today? Quote
worthy10 Posted January 8, 2012 Author Posted January 8, 2012 To simplify and clarify my point: OC must realise that: KD, wheater, pratley and Riley aren't 1st team quality. KD has been, Riley may become that and wheater and pratley are not and have never been or will not become good enough hope that helps? Quote
SpiritofBurnden Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Wheater never been good enough? Since when? He's plenty good enough for us. Quote
worthy10 Posted January 8, 2012 Author Posted January 8, 2012 (edited) Wheater never been good enough? Since when? He's plenty good enough for us. He lacks pace. He is a walking red card the further from our goal he gets. Edited January 8, 2012 by worthy10 Quote
moosevernel Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 i think wheater is a decent enough player but is a liability when it comes to recieving cards. I couldnt agree more on SKD and he has been a great servant to Bolton Wanderers but his time is up. Pratley can fuck off. But i do not get where you are coming from with Riley. I think he has been consistant and played well in the few matches he has played there for us and he is certainly better than Steinsson who just never seems to be in position. I would take Riley over him there any day. Quote
Ratwhite Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 i didn't read past that as my horseshit detector kicked in Dito Quote
Adlington Trotter Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Riley looks a very very good prospect to me. Doing everything that a full back should be doing: tracking back, tucking in to support his centre halves and getting forward to put in a cross. The only one of the above that steinsson does well on a regular basis is getting forward, defensively he's awful. I thought Riley had a good game yesterday and I'd start him against united. Pratley was his usual ineffective self and Robbo was woeful. He works hard and for that I love his attitude, but I'm afraid yesterday showed he's finished as a Bolton player. However, doesn't make it right some of the abuse he got from his own fans though. I'm referring to that bunch that were stood right behind the goal who seemed to spend the entire match chatting up the steward. And abusing Robbo. Quote
SpiritofBurnden Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Robbo was woeful. He works hard and for that I love his attitude, but I'm afraid yesterday showed he's finished as a Bolton player. His legs have gone. He's doing the best he can with dwindling resources. A bit like Kevin Davies who would once have single-handedly bullied their entire back line into submission. Quote
Whites man Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 With Cahill going Wheater should get a run in the side and a chance to develop a partnership with Knight. And he'll look a lot better player for it. Quote
Casino Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 wheaters booking yesterday was cos knight was knight Quote
Eddie Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 (edited) I thought Riley had a very good game yesterday. He looked solid at the back, has pace to recover which the other 3 didn't and put in some great blocks. Going forward he looks good as well, he's got a very good cross on him and looks to beat a player. The only criticism I would have yesterday is that when he had possession in defence he looked to float a long ball up to the front 2 too often, but to be fair to the lad he hardly had loads of different options, as we were completely static until M. Davies and N'Gog came on. Oh and Wheater and Knight is a terrible partnership, they are both too slow to play together. I'm a big fan of Wheater so I think he should be the 1 out of the 2 of them that keeps his place, but it has too be somebody with pace that plays alongside him (hopefully this Ream has a bit about him). Bosh66 Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Almost shed a tear for Kev Davies yesterday. I knew Robo amd Pratley were shite and they lived up to my expectations. I also knew Kev wasn't cutting it this or last season for the most part. Getting subbed at Macc was kind of a nail driven into his coffin as a Bowton player. Can't see a way back for him now, and there shouldn't be either. Quote
enzo gambaro Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Riley has potential but he's nowhere near there yet. He gives the ball away far too often and his defending for the goals yesterday, particularly the first, just wasn't good enough. Quote

KD has been, Riley may become that and wheater and pratley are not and have never been or will not become good enough hope that helps? It doesn't make it any more simple or any clearer than the first time you posted it. I'll give you that KD and Pratley were out of their depth yesterday but Wheater and Riley were ok. Besides that, for you to be trying to name weak players based on yesterday's performance and then not even mention Robinson makes your opinion null and void. Quote

Gumbo Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Folk moan about not enough yoof coming through then folk moan that Riley isnt much cop. Horse shit! Did he defend 1v1 - yes Can he get forward - yes Can he recover, cover and support - yes Can he play table tennis - of course... He put in at least two quality balls infront of where we were stood! He did his job! End of! Pratwank is no good though! Quote
Farrelli Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Pratley seems to have been written off as a waste of space judging by some of the posts on here, unfairly I think. He has not found his role and has looked uncomfortable, particularly in centre midfield. However, if you speak to Swansea fans (I am based in south Wales) they rate him highly and they don't look a bad side to me with plenty of good footballers. Before he fell out of favour there over contract problems he was a real factor in swansea's progress. I think he will improve significantly in the second half of the season and will start to chip in with a few goals. I will probably be laughed off the site but he has got energy and gets in scoring positions nearly every time I've seen him. Cue abuse! Quote

Maybe it's me, but I thought the idea was that if you have a really good player you'd like to keep you improve the contract he's on in order to make staying at the club more attractive than going elsewhere. Conversely, if you don't think he fits into your style of play, you allow negotiations to hit a wall and you allow that player to move on; or stay on the same contract. Either way, Pratley wasn't deemed good enough to be in Swansea's Barclays Premier League team so OC decided he was good enough for Bolton's Barclays Premier League team. I know the current league positions show otherwise but I'm of the opinion that if Swansea didn't want him, he certainly isn't good enough for Bolton. Quote

Traf Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 i'd wager pratley came to us for a significant increase in pay And he probably envisaged Swansea being where we are in the league and us being comfortable in mid-table! Quote
