gonzo Posted January 12, 2018 Author Posted January 12, 2018 They may know something we don't Like TMGJ says it does seem pretty early for the arctic and Canadian bunch to be heading off home just yet. It's said the Canadian geese migrate to the lochs in Scotland for massive feed before embarking off to Greenland for their final pit stop before heading off. Spring could be coming early, or they are getting out of the way of some heavy shit. Gale force winds next week are meant to be hitting from the north west. That will bring blizzard shit for certain if it's hits. Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted January 12, 2018 Posted January 12, 2018 Aye. Blue skies, cold and some wintry showers. Be interesting to see if, as we get nearer the time, if it gets heavy. Quote

Tonge moor green jacket Posted January 12, 2018 Posted January 12, 2018 im supposed to be getting some concrete down so can it wait til next weekend You've got the weekend. I'm doing some tomorrow. Though I'm cheating by using postfix. Quote
gonzo Posted January 12, 2018 Author Posted January 12, 2018 im supposed to be getting some concrete down so can it wait til next weekend High pressure returning back end of next week. Might be too cold to lay? Must be noted long range forecasts are worth shit. Quote
Boo Posted January 12, 2018 Posted January 12, 2018 im supposed to be getting some concrete down so can it wait til next weekendYou'll need 5 degrees or above for 48 hours after the pour to be safe. Quote
Nobster Posted January 12, 2018 Posted January 12, 2018 We’ve got another meter of snow forecast next week, they have only just got the roads open from the last lot. Quote
MancWanderer Posted January 12, 2018 Posted January 12, 2018 Some strange little birds colonised next door's tree today. Never seen them before. Difficult to describe When they fly they don't glide or rhythmically flap their wings, they flap in really short bursts and rise and fall as they fly Small bodies with a long tail - they look like flying tadpoles Can't work out if they are babies or just a really small bird. Got me well baffled Quote

gonzo Posted January 13, 2018 Author Posted January 13, 2018 Wagtails maybe? Not sure they'd be up north at this time of year? Quote
MancWanderer Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 Just googled wagtails and they look similar but didn’t appear to have any markings - same shape though with that long tail Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 Just googled wagtails and they look similar but didn’t appear to have any markings - same shape though with that long tail They're almost certainly long tailed tits. We call them flying mice. Up close they look furry. They love fat/suet pellets though they will also go for seeds. They will arrive in flocks then go after a short period, with a gentle chatter. If you get chance sit still in the garden and they will come surprisingly close if food is available. Beautiful colourings. Manc- is there any feeders in your or the neighbour's garden? Quote
MancWanderer Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 Yes tmgj the neighbours on the other side have a few feeders. They were at it again this afternoon sat in the tree and crossing my garden to the other neighbours. After googling long tailed tits it’s definitely them. They look like they are bouncing when they are flying. I completely missed the second half on the wireless today after I got distracted on YouTube by bouncing tits videos..... Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 Two robins scrapping earlier. Getting territorial already. Two bull finches back as well. Garden a bit drier too. Quote

There was certainly a smell of spring in the air this afternoon. Quite a way to go yet and a few more stings in the tail but things are starting to turn. Quote

gonzo Posted January 14, 2018 Author Posted January 14, 2018 Things picking up outside now. Wind is up. Rain all day tomorrow then 50+ winds tues, wed and possibly Thursday. Polar blast apparently. Quote
bolty58 Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 If it's any consolation, we have been hit by cyclone Joyce today. Fucking bucketing down - deep puddles on all roads and Aussies don't know how to drive in the rain anyway. Chaos. A bit of a relief TBH because we have had a couple of high 30's Celsius days recently and unusually humid for Perth. We'll be back to the furnace soon enough while you jammy bastards can enjoy all of that lovely cool weather. Quote
