If you want a laugh here's their strategy, it looks like something someone's knocked out for their Humanities GCSE.

It's not funny though. Some cunt has been paid money to write that.

I reckon the WW massive could've knocked up a vision for Bolton in half the time in a tap room at no cost whatsoever for the council tax payer.

Wankers!

Had to venture into the shopping area of Stockport town centre a few months ago for the first time in about 10 years

Jesus wept what a shithole!

When I was at Uni in the 90's and told folk I was from there, people from Oldham and places like that would say "ooh we go for a trip out there for our shopping". Not a chance now.....

Bolton you are most certainly not alone

Chorley's not too bad, in fact its quite pleasant to shop in, but I'd say it never got ideas above its station or got fancy visions of a future. You can go to the market and it's no different to 20 years ago. Granted there's no Marks or big shopping mall but still, it does what it says on the tin.

Some of the Bolton elite will probably say backward inbreds or something like that. I know which I prefer though.

I reckon you are right.

I'm reasonably well paid, if I produced a document detailing problems (i.e. excuses) and didn't offer up a single tangible solution I'd be out on my arse and harrassing Jules to find me a new job

I've said it on here before, once the interchange is finished the rest of the town centre will keep care of itself. It's always better to run something down before demolishing and that's what I think the plan is. Give it 10-15yrs it will be one smart place whilst your Bury and Wigan will be outdated. getting back to parking, if it was free all the town centre based employees would abuse it and make it far more difficult for shoppers, quite a few people live in the area too now.

BB, I think you've just stepped over the line of optimism into blind faith.

It's a dump. It doesn't need to be modern, it just needs to be fit for purpose.

lets be honest, the council don't want folk using their cars so providing cheap parking aint on their agenda

they're twats

i particularly liked this bit

Much has been achieved over the last four years. The £1 billion transformation of the town centre was central to our plans to secure economic growth and create jobs and prosperity for local people. Over £250 million has been secured resulting in:

The interchange, which is to replace the station which is literally on the doorstep of the Market. Now, I'm not going to stand there with a clipboard (and my c*ck hanging out of my flies) - but I'd wager a big proportion of the Market's customers get in/out utilizing free bus passes and one of those tartan trolleys. How many, when the new interchange opens will think:

A. It's OK, I'll get that shuttle bus to the Market/Morrisons and back - I've got all day after all.

or

B. I'll just stay at home from now on, waiting for the occasional card/letter from my son and his family in New Zealand (whom I've never seen in person). Also, possibly letting myself be duped out of my life savings (In a Bisto carton in the kitchen cupboard) by 'Water Board' officials - not out of naivety, but more likely, out of deep-seated loneliness and despair.

Have you got relatives/friends on the council BB? You seem to be painting them as prophetic seers/wiser than most on here (campaign anyone?)...I don't trust anyone who adds an unnecessary extra letter onto their name. That bloke out of 'Dude, Where's my Car?' for example - he's only ever in shite films.

People live in the area? I've heard Marsden House is full of pros - the landlords turning a blind eye to apartments being used purely as 'working' premises (I'm right in thinking it's not illegal - if there's only one girl 'working' from one property? George?) This is because no c*nt wants to live there, it always reminds me of Forest Bank and vice versa when I pass either of them.

The Old School Rooms on Great Moor Street always has a disproportionate amount of 'FOR SALE' and 'TO LET' signs outside,

Apart from proximity to the train station, I don't know what town centre living has to offer? There's the 'vibrant' nightlife I suppose, La Rambla has nowt on Bradshawgate on a Monday neet.

The only ones who'll be living in/near the town centre soon are those with no choice - those who got initially hoodwinked (and with low equity) and students (specifically 'freshers' - see the pub near Oggis and the Swan Hotel). The majority of students soon decide the best things in Bolton are the frequent trains to Manchester.

I've had to kill time in Chorley once or twice and found it not too bad, it doesn't have an M+S but it does have a Booths so...

Bolton Council is renowned for being venal and incestuous, even among other tu'penny ha'penny groups of similar 'politicians' (This has come from 'bloke in pub' conversations with councilors from Barrow and Preston).

I live in the town centre, on the site of Silverwell St sports centre. Me and the neighbours are all a pretty respectable bunch. Mixed bag of age groups too.

Aye I dont disagree it's a shithole but there's certain advantages. Public transport to Manchester, and round Bolton, convenience of shopping and if you're choosy where you go for a drink, you can have a good night. I dont miss the beauty of a Bolton taxi queue either.

And to be quite honest, there arent many suburbs of Bolton I'd prefer to live in.

Bolton Council had 10 years of a boom to ride on the back of, and by the time they talk about renovation, the private sector have no interest. That is pretty unforgivable.

Wrt to Chorley, you wanna hear people from Chorley slag it off. I work there.

Who's that Morris councillor bloke? I saw him on a local news programme the other day.

Fuck me, I couldn't understand a word. He favoured a Spitting Image puppet. Is he in charge?

i wanna moonwalk, but that aint happenin' either

which brings us onto that other WW hobby horse

do the council pay enough to attract good folk?

i suspect its quantity over quality

one good un doing 70 hours a week or 3 tossers screwing the flexi/sick for all they're worth...

Fair point, if I lived in town, that's the one I'd choose. But what do you do on the walk to the station? Close your eyes until you get to the bottom of Trinity Street? As for going out for a drink, something to eat etc. me and a girl I'm seeing used to meet on Mondays (she had an evening class), in half decent places like Harveys, we'd often be 2 of about 3 or 4 customers in. There'd quite often be more staff on than customers. Like somebody said, earlier in the thread, The Balmoral was probably rammed (I should've taken her there perhaps? :))

Sometimes on match day I walk to the station via Rice'nThree and Chicken Kebab. If there's a better £3.20 to be spent anywhere I'd like to know. I could probably buy the bottom end of Bradshawgate for that

Boozers wise Wetherspoons is alright, Barristers, Man & Scythe (out of towners love the M&S) and I'll probably get crucified for saying it but the Dog & Partridge is very good for a beer. Good ale and no knobheads.
