But they get to play in Europe next season and possibly visit some of them places anyway PLUS have a trophy win to look back on that no one can take away from them.I also notice a lot of people saying theyd rather have the euro jollies than and an FA cup win (i went to 3 of them myself) are also the same people who constantly talk about their big ale sessions at games. Sometimes i wonder if some people are purely going to the match to get leathered. Give me a trophy any day of the week.

Wigan stand to be in the bottom pot for the group stage, unless there are a number of upsets in QRs. They could get some very attractive trips or a bleak tour of Eastern Europe. Meanwhile City are sleepwalking into pot 3 of the CL. Another reason to hope Arsenal win tomorrow and go on to finish above Spurs, who are ranked just below City in the UEFA scheme of things.

As long as they don't get to go to the Faroes! I always wanted that one. Or Tromso.

Tromso are in next season's Europa League, but like the teams from the Faroes they will have to get through 4 qualifying rounds before the Group Stage (which Wigan's cup win takes them directly to). And it will need several upsets (which is quite feasible) in the QRs to lift Wigan into pot 3. If they remain in pot 4 they will be alongside all those teams and unable to meet them in the Group stage.

But Airbus UK or Prestayn Town could meet Tromso or a Faroese team in QR1 (and Bala Town are only one play-off match away!).

Talking of European football, is that Bert Kassies a European cousin of yours?

Did Dave Whelan once break his leg in an FA Cup Final once upon a time? I wasn't so sure as it's not like they mentioned it every five fucking minutes.

He is a very useful source! When he goes on a 2 week holiday some of his site followers go potty. Not me, I come on here.

And more importantly Wigan have won more silverware than Bolton in the last 50 years. This is May 1958 for Wiganers.Unbelievable.My thoughts have turned from jealously when Watson scored the WINNER to admiration of them.Whelan and Martinez have proved themselves to have a better cup team than anything Bolton have had to offer since the 1950s.Better than the White hot teams or the Okocha/Djorkaeff team that beat Villa in the semi final.Wigan didn't fall at the final hurdle or bottle it against Oldham, they produced on the biggest stage. They won the cup.Hats off to the WINNERS.

'Winners' don't get relegated. Change the fucking record matey.

Will you switch allegiance to whoever Martinez goes to?

Wigan hadn't got past the sixth round of the cup before this year, now they have gone and won it. Fair play to them and despite what Smithills says you do need a bit of luck. There are plenty of sides that could be gutted that little old Wigan have won something that they haven't managed in living memory, Newcastle for one! What's pissing me off now is SG is continually using this as an excuse for a pop at Bolton. Portsmouth won it a few years ago does that make them winners and us losers then!

I had to walk out of the cricket club on Saturday, 2 Wigan fans in larging it up

Bit my tongue and got a takeaway, the only downside of living in Westhoughton.

Don't worry when they get relegated they will return to being manc/scousers or whatever they were originally.

Wigan won the Cup Final - City underperformed.

They got all the appropriate publicity, and have almost doubled that by getting relegated. So be it.

But what sticks in the craw is that when Bolton won in 1958 all the rest of the country and media wanted the opposition to win.

I accept that the crash was a tragedy Boton were the better team on the day (just as Wigan were) and deservedly won.

But United had been special permission after the crash to sign additional players, even some who were cup-tied and should not have been allowed to play in the fifth round or any later rounds. Why was this ever allowed? They were the reigning FA Youth Cup champions, and 5 of that team went on to play (almost) 300 matches in the first team, although no individual reached 100.

Kenny Morgans had captained the Youth Cup winning team, and was the only one on the crash trip. He was injured, but was playing again before the end of the season.

Mark Pearson made his debut in the fifth round cup match which was the first post-crash game (in which he was the man of the match).

Alex Dawson played in that match and remained in the team through to the FA Cup Final, scoring 5 goals.

If United had not been given dispensation it is likely that they would have lost. Maybe not to Wednesday in the fifth round, but possibly to West Brom or Fulham, who both took them to replays. So if the rules had not been bent, the nation would probably have given Bolton due credit for their win - but that never happened. That's the problem.
