Zulu
... and here's the Chron & Echo's take on the Coventry City saga. http://www.northamptonchron.co.uk/sport/coventry-city-to-play-home-games-at-northampton-town-for-next-three-years-1-5245614
Breightmet Boy
Imagine if they played at Sixfields for a bit and let the ground rot, the place wouldn't be worth a wank and they'd be able to buy it back at auction for less than the acreage is worth. Traf
It's costing £12m for the redevelopment of Sixfields, which only cost £6m to build originally.
Whites man
Northampton Town have just been granted permission to extend Sixfields so that it will have a capacity of 10,000 (currently around 7,000, I believe.) And this in a town the size of Bolton with no local rival within 20 miles. Pitiful. http://www.northamptonchron.co.uk/news/politics/exclusive-cobblers-and-council-strike-12m-deal-to-expand-sixfields-1-5245529 Rugby town. Zulu
Rugby town. Only to a point. There is a strong rugby tradition here but there's also a strong and active football scene at local and county level - youth and seniors. Northampton Town has been a shambles for many years however. H
In the 60's Northampton went from the 4th division to the 1st division and back down to the 4th over a period of nine seasons

Con
How on earth can they contemplate another ground in the middle of this is astounding. frank_spencer
surely getting in with the rugby clubs on this place would be a solution? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butts_Park_Arena
Pie Eater
surely getting in with the rugby clubs on this place would be a solution? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butts_Park_Arena From the way it's panning out, I'm not sure Sisu/whoever the fuck actually owns them even wants a solution. Might just take the football league place and run, a la MK Franchise

Plenty of room on the other touchline for a decent sized stand, but very little space for development at either end.

Down the road from where i used to live, walked past it every morning on my way to work. Sure with a bit of work they could sort something out. but as Pie Eater says that may not be Sisu's end game. salop wanderer
and a 10 pt deduction it seems? Eh? Luton are still in non-league after their 30 point penalty 5 years ago. Talk about disparity - how can this be deemed suitable punishment for financial mismanagement? Like caning the two fuckers who've just effectively murdered that poor little boy in the same city. clown
Coventry away in FA Cup was a big game at the time. Remember Dean Crombie got sent off or gave away a pen perhaps??? Edit - just looked and he wasn't in the side that night. Why do I think Dean Crombie is anything to do with that game??? Bolton took a rum mob that day down to Cov in 87, it even surprised me, at least we got beat by the eventual winners that year.

Got talking to some Coventry lads years later in Warsaw at the England game. They couldn't believe the amount of lads we turned out. They couln't believe it either when about 80 of us tried to steam into their end just on full time They originally thought we were DMB's,the cheeky bastard !!!! miamiwhite
That pub on Fiveways would never let us in after the place got wrecked in 77 in a league game we had a coach from the Albion, arrived early doors and went off as left for the ground. non-stop all the way. they dragged one of ours into a butchers to give him a good hiding but we broke free from the escort and waded in. you could say we saved him from the chop as the steaks were quite high that day
