Smart Motorways = Prepfortolls

The M6 toll is the best motorway in Britain.

Had to read this several times; thought it was a Brian cox theorem.

This

Got my M6 Toll Tag firmly attached to my front screen

Don't care if it's a claim-back business journey or I've got to pay it myself.

Same here

But it's all part of some big plot to make all motorways tolls

Make them all shit for x years and you'll happily pay for them not to be

Then the a roads will get worse and so on

Maybe

That or flying cars will sort everything

Get the canal fixed and get some water taxis on it. Not sure the distance but from little lever to manc it must be around nine miles. A gentle chug at 6 or 7 mph not really any slower. Brew and breaky on board, WiFi and a relaxing environmnet so fresh for work.

At the risk of sounding like one of The Levellers, I read a while back that the canals could be used to take something like 40% of freight off the roads.

40% of Lorries off the roads and problem solved I reckon.

Non-perishables could go via canal. Yes, adds a day or 2 onto the transit time but with the money saved it would soon make sense.

There's a study somewhere, will try and find it.

It's being done. Not sure how far it'll expand but making use of them where possible is a good idea

A single RTC at the junction of Victoria Road/Chorley New Road, which happened somewhere around 3 in the afternoon was still causing problems at 5.30 and beyond last night. Fortunately we were meeting son from Uni for match so wifey decided I could spend £40 on piri-piri chicken at the outlet formerly known as Burger King. FORTY FUCKING QUID on a pre-match tea!

RTC probably wasn't helped by the police and ambulance waiting 45 minutes before calling the fire service to extricate a woman from her Audi. That's whipcash for you!

To be fair if there was 3 of you, that's less than £14 each for a sit down meal....it's hardly highway robbery

It's a big problem with us at the moment, I'm having to double man trunking runs due to traffic putting drivers hours at risk.

Sounded pretty crap on the m6 northbound this morning.

Just spoke to a lass from Rochdale, it took her 3&half hours to get here!

Oh, make me sound a tight fucker why don't you? There were four of us anyway so a tenner each. (You don't think my daughter would stay home with dad paying for match AND Nandos do you?) There's food in the fridge that probably needs eating. I could have taken my lad a sandwich.

The speed limit on canals is 4mph, and it takes about 15 minutes to get through a lock - of which there are 6 or 7 between Little Lever and Manchester. Plus you'd have to factor in the commute from your house to the canal, then from the canal to your workplace. It's a nice idea though. I like it.

:D

Anyway traffic tonight is horrific

This autumn / winter has been the worst period I can ever remember for it

My house to Whalley Range, 23 miles. I set off at 7am & arrived at 8.40. Soul destroying it was.

This is quite normal apparently.

I'll keep my job in the sticks for a little while longer me thinks.

On the M60 I blame the narrow lanes, esp at simister 18. Hopefully when its finished in Aug/Sept there'll be an improvement. I've always found Oct when the clocks go back until Jan the worst time on the M60.

7 o'clock? Fucking lie in that. You've got to set off at 06.15 or earlier to safely get in central manc for 8am.

Sounded ace on the m6 at tea time as well.

2 hour delays both ways around knutsford

Just wait till the northern powerhouse is booming. Be setting off the day before.

I was in Manc today by train (nothing to do with Christmas), and on crossing over the M6 at 4.25 there was an impressive array of red lights in one direction and white lights in the other, 3 lanes each, and none of them seemed to be moving.

The bosses want me in Newbury next week. Fuck that idea sunshine's!

M62 to Leeds this morning was deserted. Left at 8.30, arrived at 9.30. Left Leeds at 12.30 and drove through a monsoon back over the 62. Did it in an hour again. Some days the traffic doesn't make sense. Should have been a nightmare with the fog, rain and spray but it wasn't

Don't they close Yorkshire as it gets near christmas?

I've not missed that dartboard....
