It's not the brightest thing by Turkey shooting down a Russian fighter jet, apart from pissing off a nutter like Putin, Turkey's tourism will suffer badly too. Something like 3 million Russians holiday there and they spend plenty of their money too.

Russia has already told its citizens to avoid Turkey for their holidays and both sides will be publicly angry at each other, but overall neither side here has any option but to remain - sort of - friends. Though bets are off if Russia chooses to throw resources at the Kurds. But that is unlikely.

I've done a check, the (disputed) area where this jet was shot down is 30km from any reported ISIS areas. It is (according to one week old maps) "rebel" controlled. This is who they were bombing. You'd have to be a full Communist Party member to believe anything different.

I'd have thought 30 km was very little to a jet, & this particular jet may or may not have been bombing ISIS but the Russians have done much, much more to damage ISIS than the Turks have.
