Whites man
You need to get in the Northern Quarter, spoilt for choice for good bars. Don't get a round in the Port Street Beer House. Enzo off here was on the thick end of a £28er for 4 pints the other Saturday, ouch.

Reminiscent of the pub walking to the ground at Macclesfield the other year. There was 1/2s in there for £4.50.

Tv21's put me off due to the clientele all being odd, but everyone deserves a second chance:)

tylswhite
Drinking on a school night isn't big or clever, feeling it a bit today. Was really impressed with the place last night, looks belting inside. The garden out back is a winner as well. Great selection of drinks for all tastes. Had a look downstairs in the micro brewery & im not a gin drinker but knocked a couple back last night and they seemed nice from what I can remember That big screen and sound system is fucking superb as well. Will be good for next Fridays game on sky. Edited October 23, 2014 by tylswhite
Moderators Casino Posted October 23, 2014 Moderators Share Posted October 23, 2014 call me a cynic but i don't give it long it has to start somewhere but one decent venue isn't going to survive on its own folk don't park their arse in town - they wander around so where do you wander to or from? They are all things Ive thought of as well but they seem to know what they are doing. They have successful pubs in a lot worse places so who knows. Hopefully its successful and a few more places pop up that make Bolton a decent night out again. Its a shame theres not many decent venues in Bolton anymore though, used to like it for a night out but its fucking died in recent times. Henry_VIII
call me a cynic but i don't give it long it has to start somewhere but one decent venue isn't going to survive on its own folk don't park their arse in town - they wander around so where do you wander to or from? It will do ok. The Venue has just opened and has bands on and music aimed at the older end. Brass Cat has its hardcore crowd and is great on Sundays with live music. Cider house is always good for a drink and so is Bl1. If you started in Spoons, had one in Downtown, one in BL1 and Cider house then a couple in Gin bar, Brass Cat and Venue in any order you've had a good drink. Try it, town isn't that bad despite what people who never go say on here. Yes it's not the greatest night in the world and would get boring every week and will never compete with HTown obvs but it's still a decent night with decent people. Moderators Casino Posted October 23, 2014 Moderators Share Posted October 23, 2014 (edited) 3 in the cider house is a night out in itself maybe, put gates each end of churchgate that might work and, like you say, the fact the HTown inbreeds dont spoil it, maybe it does have a chance Edited October 23, 2014 by Casino
Moderators Horwich Posted October 23, 2014 Moderators Share Posted October 23, 2014 I think the fact that the brewery have hand picked them to run their flagship pubs speaks volumes
Youri McAnespie
Don't get a round in the Port Street Beer House. Enzo off here was on the thick end of a £28er for 4 pints the other Saturday, ouch. £28 for four pints? I couldn't give a shit if it was brewed by Zeus himself, blessed by the Pope, pulled by an 80s Linda Lusardi, topless, whilst Eddie Van Halen stood alongside her playing the solo from 'Beat it' - £7 a pint in Manchester is f*cking Emperor's new clothes... I presume the gaff is frequented by beardy tattooed Eric Morecambe's glasses types (and I don't mean real ale twats)? I hope one of you smashed up all the ceramics in the bogs before one left... It was £2.50 for a pint of Lancaster Blonde t'other day up Bradshaw, is the ale at this 'beer house' 2.8 times better or is it the folk drinking there are 2.8 times better than me? (that's a rhetorical question btw, Whites man, I'm not ranting at you ). Edited October 23, 2014 by Youri McAnespie
Smiley
Same here and that's the problem town doesn't entice me these days, a few bars for over 25s with decent quality ale decent music and reasonably priced and I might give it a whirl again, used to go nearly every weekend 4-5 years back. Don't forget you are also 4-5 years older. Drinking week in, week out is just simply pissing money away and not really investing in your future/family, etc. You've got yourself involved with your little lads footie team and probably getting as much joy out of this as you did from getting smashed on a weekend. For double w*nker points, quoting myself and answering my own question... Going off the evidence (pictured below) the answer is a resounding, yes. seasoned Traveller
Me and wife went to town last night....bloody hell. That Venue, I"m 44 and we were youngest in the place. Like the Legion with a "turn" on. Gin Bar was alreet. Won't be rushing back for a night out. Anyhow, why are there no decent restaraunts in town, full of tacky bars.
