Luton not being good enough to beat QPR is a terrible result. The only way i can see Wigan going down now is if they lose at Charlton.

That is it for me Lose at Charlton they go down, draw or win they stay up

Last couple of play off spots will be interesting

also derby haven’t been in the premier league for around 10 years now they must be spunking cash away

Candy crush cash, he wants out as well.

The championship is bankrupt. I’m delighted seeing so many teams struggling for cash.

Too many chasing the dream of going up. Too many carrying massive wages when they drop down. Time for teams to get real when offering contracts

Thing is that's what parachute payments are for, so it should never really be a problem.

Clubs now are just spending way beyond their means in the hope of winning the lottery and getting into the Premier League.  It's just rank bad management and the fault of no-one but themselves if/when they do go pop.  Players (or their agents) demand extortionate wages and clubs demand extortionate transfer fees only because they know other clubs will pay them.

Derby are fucked, can see them going pop anytime soon. There could be that many teams in administration that we may jump 2 divisions in no time, we can wave to all the cunts when we fly past them 😁

Yeah, Derby seem to have been throwing money at it for years and getting nowhere.

Can't be sustainable surely.

Hope they dont go bust though, nephew works for them.

Derby are another who 'sold' their ground back to themselves aren't they ? I'm not sure why they're not being treated the same as Wednesday though unless they did a better job of it.

Capping does make progression so much harder though

I'm tempted to say close to impossible

It’s interesting the way they are talking about this cap though - a flat amount dependant on the league you are in regardless of your turnover.

On one hand that means that potential progression from league 2 to league 1 and then league 1 to the championship is completely even, but on the other (as Sunderland and Pompey are arguing) it means some clubs aren’t allowed to spend what they can afford (I.e. the clubs that have higher gate receipts and can sustainably afford more than the £1.5m or £2.5m cap) but others can spend beyond their means (I.e those that have much lower turnover but are still allowed to spend the same amount).

I’m not sure what the answer is because the current proposal gives a more level playing field but a cap linked to turnover / operating profit would make more sense financially - unless owners chuck cash in through rogue revenue streams which would just break the model.

The only way to completely rid the game of financial problems is to say you can only spend x% of your turnover on player wages across the whole football league and the owner can’t pump money in as revenue (I.e every club has to be sustainable). The problem with that is that leagues will then just mirror the size of the clubs as it will be impossible to challenge the “big clubs” and the disparity between the prem and the rest will get even bigger.

In reality, as long as there is the pot of gold in the prem there will always be teams overspending to get there, there will always be teams that are locked into big contracts that don’t expect to go down but are screwed when they do and there will always be those that are an ego boost for a wealthy owner which could pull the plug at any minute. We’ve been one of those and paid the price big time - others will do the same - but luckily we got saved at the last minute from the ultimate crash and can start to move towards that pot of gold again.

The percentage of turnover was one of the original methods for the Super League salary cap, but of course you then ended up with the owners companies paying way over the odds for sponsorship deals etc to boost the turnover. No fair way of doing it other than basically accepting that the whole thing is a cycle and let everybody enjoy their turn on the ride before it comes crashing down and start again.

Listening to Pop Master on Radio 2, chap on from Leigh called David Howells.  Works in prison service.  Asked what he does with his spare time, "I follow Bolton Wanderers home and away".  Has grandkids so presumably in his 50s, must have been a fan for decades.  Sounded like a great bloke, and knows his music, just thought I'd mention it in case anyone knows him.

I think for England to get a decent path for qualification they need to win their nations league group

Oh is it tied into that again I thought it was just Euros. World Cup qualifying groups can throw up a lot more challenging fixtures than Euro ones, can see us in with someone like Italy or Germany.

Football is going to feel odd and not quite right for a while, may as well throw in a Christmas world cup while we're at it.
