Qatar World Cup

Right - forgetting the bent bidding process and the conditions of the migrant workers building the stadiums - does anybody else agree that a Nov/Dec competition has the potential to be ace?

Firstly because it will take up most of the traditional Christmas bullshit season so we'll all be talking about football and not festivities. Secondly just for the novelty factor. And thirdly because we can see whether or not our well worn excuse about our players being tired stands up to scrutiny.

Maguire was winning everything to be fair, USA had a spell of consecutive corners 2nd half and he was getting to them all, made a cracking slide tackle late on too, only thing I didn't like about him tonight was him and Stones passing to each other far too much, slowing out play down.

Dest skilled him 1st half but he recovered and got a block in.

It was all so highly predictable. I took 4.50 the draw and 7.10 a US win. An under rated US team and an over rated England team; euphoria about beating what most believed would be the weakest in the group comfortably breeding a bit of over confidence (just read L/H White and Gonzo recent posts for proof) and the past World Cup finals history between the two. The clues were there if you were able to take off the rose tinted spectacles for a moment. Kane unlucky not to win it at the end though.

The big boys to come in the knockout stage. Doesn't bode well does it? At least now the game against Wales will not be a dead rubber and hopefully a similar result for England to the Iran game - a victory by 4 goals or more would be lovely and I can see it happening off what we have seen in the last couple of days.

Worst performance under Southgate in a tournament (nations excluded). Showed nothing in every department.

You clearly missed the taking of the knee? Performed with extraordinary grace and timing.

They could take the knee with a rainbow butt plug up their rear so long as they put a shift in. They did fuck all today. Rubbish.

We gave away to many forced turnovers. 😁

England 1 Wayells 1

Welshers go home feeling proud they’ve not been beaten by the English bastards, meanwhile - USA 1 Iran 1.

Engerland win the group wit’ th’iranis runners up.

Onwards and upwards

Do CR have the smallest population?

if so, you can tell.

Also, are they the only country in the competition without an army?

No. Wales's population is lower, for one, and Qatar for another.

Aye. That was just after I said he was shite.

People having a go at the players are wrong IMO, think that conservative performance came from the manager. Dangerous if you ask me but we'll see what the Wales game brings.

Surely we’ve all seen enough tournament football not to panic at this stage. We had a drab 0-0 against the Scot’s at the euros.

Oh and Shaw and MacGuire our best players, that kind of game. None of our front 6 performed, when that's our strength

Thought Tim Rim played ok, Antoneee was  fairly meh, Pulisic mom for the Septics.

We just had X1 6 out of 10’s.

Plenty more in the tank, don’t panic  folks.

This..spot on. I’ll add when Maguire is up against a proper player be prepared for the worst.

We were completely outplayed by a team that included players from Fulham, Leeds and Norwich. Plus a Rangers reject. I don’t think it’s unfair to have expected a bit more from us tonight.

I’ll repeat what I’ve said every World Cup since 1966. We had a boring 0-0 draw against Uruguay in the first match of the tournament. We then went on to win it.

The fact that I’ve said it so many times since and we haven’t won it shows that it’s pretty meaningless really.
Keep the faith👍

Plus one from Chelsea who was well up for it

It was frustrating and didn't understand bringing Henderson on

But there was lots of stray passes and felt whilst I wasn't getting the razor blades out it was a poor performance

Well, no. One of our forwards near the centre circle was still kneeling after the kick-off.

Pathetic. Timing was right off. What would George Floyd think ?

I missed that. No doubt Southgate and Bullingham will be working hard over the next few days to iron out such flaws before the Wales game. Surely they would want us to be world champions at this sort of stuff?

Numb lad.

I’m surprised there’s so many pages of comments to catch up on.

I’m pissed, been out since 7 watching the 2nd team I love, thought more might have been.

While the emotion of not beating the yanks and playing poorly has not passed me by…..

We have (bar an absolute disaster) just qualified (again) for the last 16 of the World Cup haven’t we?

It’s the 2nd round of tournament football where both teams are content with a draw. That dictates the style of game doesn’t it?

No team was willing to sacrifice a clean sheet to push on and go for a goal.

I don’t think we are good enough to go on and win it, nor do many on here either, so get through to the next round and see what happens.
