If I were ever to come back, the Bradshaw/Harwood area for me. Living amongst true Boltonians, beautiful countryside (don't know whether to use 'spectacular', 'enthralling' or bewitching') with incredible wildlife, clean air etc.

No doubt there are other good areas which have survived the onslaught. I would only be venturing into town when absolutely necessary.

I did however have a pint in t'Griffin yesterday. Just for old times sake. Was pleasantly surprised with the apparent increase in the number of teeth present.

not just that, is it

every sainsburys now

indeed, our local one closed down about 2 years ago, and relocated firstly to Homebase, then more recently to Sainsbury.

Fortunately the unit they were in has been replaced with a half decent clothes shop, so at least it's not just been left a derelict shell

Argos closing down. Been there since I was a kid that.

The current location (junction of Bow St and Bridge St) was still Co-op and Concorde Restaurant and an old bank in 1990 although all closed down.
It ended up on fire, usually deliberate in order to speed up the planning process to demolish. The old sandstone façade of the bank was supposed to remain as part of the plans but mysteriously fell down irreparably, just as the front of the old Marsden Rd Fire Station and other similar buildings.

Can you imagine the founders of Argos going on Dragon's Den?

"We're here to ask for £150k for 5% of our new retail development, where we sell pretty much every electrical item etc that you can think of, but you're not allowed to see them until after you've paid."
