Loved getting my argos and index catalogue just before Christmas to make my list. Spoilt little shit I was. Actually scrap that. I still am.

Can you imagine the founders of Argos going on Dragon's Den?

"We're here to ask for £150k for 5% of our new retail development, where we sell pretty much every electrical item etc that you can think of, but you're not allowed to see them until after you've paid."

Well, i am oot

Amazon beat you to it

Still buy loads online at Argos, as its cheaper than Amazon and I can pick it up at the local Sainsburys on my shop, as they've all moved into them.

They were genius at moving into a supermarket. It's kept their costs down and you can pick up immediately you can't wait 24 hours for stuff like printer ink for the same price as Amazon Prime.

Hats off.

But can Argos spy on your activities on your computer like Amazon can? Allegedly.

Just kidding Jeff, just kidding.

Sainsburys own Argos now or the Sainsburys group more so. No brainer as you say.

No, I think you're right. Turned into acheap supermarket I think. More opposite Aults (?) than Clifton.

Yep, it was.  A couple of doors up (towards the train station) there was also a small post office on the corner ... which was dead opposite a stationery place (Barry Bennett's), which was a tattoo place last I noticed.

Not genius, just good capitalist management.  Another high street closure, another round of job cuts.
Plenty of other jobs out there though.

Well I'm at Farnworth cricket club tonight, beautiful evening!

Could be mistaken, but think before it was an Argos used to be owned by that Whelan fella who broke his leg.  Had one of his supermarkets there in the early 70s with a sport shop (which eventually became JJB) upstairs.

Think it was a large charity shop for a spell post Argos at some point.

Edited by TrickyTrotter

The shop on Newport St. was Battersby’s furniture shop. He was a director of BWFC. It then became Morrisons. When Morrisons moved to its present location it was taken over by Argos.
That’s how I remember it.

First jjb i remember (puma vilas) was on churchgate near boars head

I also purchased puma vilas from exactly the same place, was always an adidas wearer but at the time circa 83 those puma G Vilas were about the best looking trainers around and half the price of a pair of lendl court that cost me almost a weeks wages in the day.
