No he wouldn't. Its a subtle difference but as the majority shareholder he is the customer, buying the assurance from the auditors on accounts produced by club employees who report to the finance director.

 

Usually its the Chief Exec that signs off the accounts, football works a little differently than most organisations so it could have been Gartside as you get the impression he is/was more of an executive chairman rather than a chairman in the usual business sense - ie he was maybe making decisions day to day rather than overseeing the exec board alongside the other non-exec directors.

 

Guess it would be easy to check who had signed off the last accounts just by looking at them, don't have them myself but believe a few on here probably Casino, Boltondiver or Eddie would be able to confirm?

Not sure which thread to put this in (Owners/Administration), so it's now in both.

Been doing some middle of the night thinking re Holdsworth and his posse. We are told that there are only him and another group still looking into the takeover. I'm in the " don't trust Holdsworths lot cos he's a cockney wide boy" camp. BUT,

They have been in from day one, whilst "apparently" other groups (Thais, Greeks, Middle East and UK) have been in looked at the figures, coughed, shook their heads and walked off.

Now Holdsworth Inc have seen they same figures and are hanging around...

He/They are either complete mentalists that live in never never land, or there is some serious money in the background. I may be way off the mark here, but the current situation seems to be a bit poker player ish. Not showing hands etc.

The only way any club (as I see it) can turn a profit, is by getting into the Premier league. The only way to do that short/medium term is by investment, serious investment. The alternatives are paddling around the 1st and championship trying to invent a Blackpool/Burnley type promotion assault. Whichever way, if the running costs and figures are SO Bad.

I wanted a ford fiesta , Dad, in laws, friends told me not to. It had been at the garage a few months and loads of people looked at it because it was a great price. They reduced it to tempt me.

If a deal has been done to sell a business that business doesn't carry on selling assets. It is clear no deal has been done.

If their consortium is so strong and committed why not just complete deal with them ?

 

I agree with the Poker example there is an attempt to see who is bluffing, but Holdsworths lot have been hanging about since day 1 and it is clear there is something the club do not like about them.

 

The analogy I would use is the night club one Holdsworths lot are the dodgy bird who is easy but you are 50/50 in terms of catching clap, so you are hoping that a fit model walks in with a mate fancying a threesome with you. You know this is never going to happen really but you have no need to rush in as the first bird will still be there till the kebab shop shuts.

Trouble is pal, nightclub shuts in 1/2 hour and we've not got a taxi booked and the bouncer and his mates are stood at the door glaring at us cos the fat bird is his sister.
