Can you imagine being a teacher with a gun - looking out at a classroom and being happy with the knowledge that you might have to shoot one of them?

I would rather be that teacher than the one who is helpless, hiding under his desk why the kids who look up to him are being butchered

Fair enough - but I think the fact we're having this conversation is proof in itself that their current system is fucking bonkers. At our school health and safety was more along the lines of whether we were allowed to use scissors or not.

The NRA want to keep their guns because of an ammendment which is supposed to be designed from stopping the state becoming to powerful and the answer is to militarise education?

What about being a teacher in a country where murdering bastards cannot pick up semi automatic weapons more easily than they can pick up a beer?

Two of the deadliest school shootings -- Columbine and Virginia Tech -- occurred despite the presence of armed police. Columbine had an armed school resource officer, while the morning of the shooting at Virginia Tech, five officers plus the police chief were present on campus. In both shootings, the killers were well-aware of armed officers on their campuses.

I am pretty sure them teachers would love to work in a country that didn’t have them problems.

I’m not sure how many armed guards where on the school but I’m guessing not many, some of these schools are massive and the guards can’t be everywhere at once.

Along with armed guards/teachers what about airport style security, safe rooms, emergency locks on all (armoured) doors that are activated during an incident...just some of the actions that would help

The second example is a sensible one. I watched something a bit back about a portable door brace that was next to impossible to breach.

Sounds more like a prison than a school. What a ridiculous state of affairs. The Americans have, quite simply, got their priorities wrong when it comes to gun laws.

Armed teachers?

I look forward to the first white teaching shooting an innocent black kid as he thought he had a gun though he was really just fucking around with non shatter ruler

It might be over 20 years old but brass eye gets more prophetic as time goes on

Yep, though even if they resolve to sort the problem long term, something has to be done in the short term to protect folk.

The phrase “shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted” only applies if the horse isn’t coming back with semi-automatics.

I'm not that sure a bloke with a uniform and a badge carrying a pistol capable of shooting 10 rounds is much of a match with a long-barrelled rifle capable of putting more than the guard's 10 rounds out within a second. Pistols are, at best, inaccurate. Only in films does the good guy have a 100% accuracy. The guard doesn't want 30 bullets putting into him by some crazy kid. Do you think he'd be running towards the shooter when it kicks off? I reckon he'll be running the same direction as everyone else whilst writing out his resignation.

We need Navy Seals doubling up as dinner ladies.

Jobs a good un

At least homework will be in on time

said it before

Too many septics still think it’s the Wild West. A gun, or guns, makes them feel awesome and invincible.

It won’t change and will probably only get worse.

As for trump, the fact he sat there with a note to remind himself to look empathetic when speaking to bereaved parents is proof that he isn’t a human.

Here's an idea.

Why don't they just ban guns?

Why don't they just ban guns?

They can, it won’t stop shootings though

at what point would the teacher shoot? when they think the student is going to shoot? when they think they are armed? when a generic black student walks in (similar to the tactic used by the police) ?

One of the greats that sketch

it's missing the bit where Chris Morris says in time conversation between mother and daughter will be held at gun point

at what point would the teacher shoot?

When the bad guy calls him lowdown dirty teacher scum and shouts ‘draw’.

Anything else would be poor form.

Why don't they increase the cost of all bullets currently available on sale and all future sales to say $5,000 per bullet?

And have an amnesty on all current bullets in circulation.

Plus you aren't asking anyone to give up the 2nd Amendment.

How does one assume the teacher wouldn't be cowering under the desk with a gun?

Because all gun fans are nails? Haven't you watched Unforgiven?

I reckon' I'd be good at being a gun-totin' teacher, I'd bet I could even bust a cap in the ass of the shooter gangsta stylee - scowling and with the gun aimed sideways...

When the bad guy calls him lowdown dirty teacher scum and shouts ‘draw’.

Could cause problems if they're teaching art!

Collateral damage

And just how valuable are Art Teachers?!

A rules of engagement would have to be used similar to what armed guards/police have over there
