Indeed. If fate is going to take you relatively early, then at least to be able to say you gave people memories they'll take to their graves is a much as you can ever hope for. I'll raise a toast to t

Thoughts with the Gartside family

Just had text off Wanderers fan who knew him very well he simply said that Phil was a "great guy" it's another big loss for the club.

Really shocked to hear this news. Went to my first Wanderers match in 1987 and never thought I would see what I have since. A huge slice of the praise for what Bolton Wanderers have achieved in the last 20 years is down to one man. RIP Mr Chairman

Sincere condolences to Phil's family and friends. A dedicated Chairman and fan that will always be remembered. RIP

RIP fellow wanderer, very sad news

Thanks Phil.

RIP to a devoted white. One of us.

RIP Phil. One of us, I'll remember him being there in that square in Guimaraes with us.

Tragic news and no age to depart. He split opinions but no denying that Phil presided over the best times in BWFC's recent history. Thank you for allowing us to see the likes of Djorkaeff, Okocha, Hierro, Anelka, Campo in a Wanderers shirt. RIP

I am genuinely saddened by the news. Thoughts are with his friends and family.

Will remember the good times and be thankful for them and in future not get depressed with the situation now and lash out.Hope we can continue and preserve his legacy as Eddie said today, we all want that.

RIP Phil Gartside

RIP PG

The last few months will have been tough for his family but he's at peace now. Thoughts with them all.

He's part of a team that took BWFC to amazing highs, I made some good friends through those European trips, he has a good legacy in my eyes.

RIP and condolences to the family.

Thank you for the good times.

RIP Phil thoughts are with your family. 63 is no age as stated above

Genuinely feel sorrow , for your family and friends , we have lost another Wanderer , R I P MR GARTSIDE.

And thank you for some of the best moments / times of my life , the good the bad and the ugly,

Started going the match on our own in 1980 and seen some sights, and as a fellow WANDERER , you could not hide your passion and excitement !! the same as the rest of us could not on those Remarkable Nights ( on occasions weeks )in Europe , your celebrations and joy was as real as our own thank you SIR , for helping Little BOLTON, get up and compete as Equals with the greats and for that I salute you...

May God Bless you and yours RIP IN PEACE from a greatful and equally respectful Walkden White

RIP Phil - thanks for the memories

RIP Phil - remember laughing at the idea of us getting into the Premier League when I was a teenager.

Sometimes you need people who have vision, application and talent. PG was one of those - a sad loss.

Thanks for the memories Phil.  It's never been boring. Best wishes to the Gartside family.

RIP Phil, this is awful news. 63 is no age.

A true BWFC fan, thanks for the good times. In sure he's having a good chat with Sir Nat up there already

Thanks for everything Phil. Just dug out my old Wanderers scarf on my way out to the pub. Will buy you a pint. Might have to drink it myself mind, but will think of you and tell the locals why I'm wearing it.

Quite moving reading the comments on twitter from all the former players, and also the young lads at the club

RIP Phil Gartside. During the grim decade of the 80's we could never have dreamed what we would see under his stewardship. My thoughts are with his family. Sleep tight fellow Wanderer.

RIP

Condolences to friends and family at this sad time
