Indeed. If fate is going to take you relatively early, then at least to be able to say you gave people memories they'll take to their graves is a much as you can ever hope for. I'll raise a toast to t

Thank You

RIP Phil, always a sad day when we lose one of our own. Hope the show of support from fellow whites helps his family in some small way.

A very sad day for all Wanderers supporters.

He led us through arguably our most prosperous period and was a super White through and through.

RIP Phil Gartside.

RIP Phil.

RIP Phil

Regardless of recent events, he was at the helm for the greatest days in our modern history.

His family could have given full details of his sad illness to deflect criticism from him, but to their credit maintained radio silence and that is a major credit to them at this very sad time.

Sleep well fellow Wanderer.

Well said and hope everyone on here agrees

RIP Phil

Sad news, thanks for your part in so many of my memories.

I remember the smile on his face, how proud he was of the club he was chairman of punching above its weight on those European trips. Great days, thanks Phil R.I.P. we will always remember.

On a (boozy) break in Edinburgh. Just read this now. Not read the whole thread.

Condolences to his family and friends.

Thanks for the good times.

Hope the conspiracy types can take a minute, sit back and reflect on their thoughts.

Rest in peace Phil. Condolences to his family. Sad day.

RIP, a true Wanderer.

Very sad. RIP Phil.

Rip Phil. Saw him at the services on the way home from Fulham a few years back. 1st day of the season at loftus road. 4-1 we got battered.

Me to Phil 'you spending some money this year or fucking what?' Phil to me 'we've got fuck all to spend, enjoy the trip home though lad' Fair play l!! Wanderer through and through.

Aye. Very sad news. RIP

My your soul rest in peace Phil...your spirit will live on in the club you adored

RIP Phil, my thoughts are with family. 63 is no age to go it very sad indeed.

Very sad news my thoughts are with his family RIP Phil you will be missed by all us wanderers fans!

RIP Phil

Sad day for all connected with BWFC

Condolences to his family.

Very sad day I recall speaking to him many times when his son had serious health problems and he took a lot of things hard at the time so god knows what he was thinking in last few months, last time I spoke was last summer as I went for my season ticket and he looked like an old man then because of the Mcallister transfer bollocks. Anyone who ever thought he didn't want the ckub to achieve all we wanted didn't know him. He is a massive loss to football in general and I only hope Eddie Davies now comes back into the club to help regain the legacy Phil helped create. RIP Mr Chairman

Sad news.

RIP.

RIP Phil

63 is no age to go but what you achieved at Bolton made so many fellow wanderers happy for a lot of years and you will always be in our thoughts

If any silver lining can come out of today's tragic news, then Eddie Davies's tribute on Sky Sports is an indication that Phil's legacy will remain.

Can't recall his exact words, but pretty sure he said Bolton Wanderers will survive this and as a tribute to Phil Gartside.

Once again, sleep well Phil, you gave us so many unforgettable lifelong memories.

Because I could not stop for death
He kindly stopped for me
The carriage held but just ourselves
And immortality.
