We've just won promotion using a gaggle of players nobody else wanted, littered with injury plagued loanees and players that were cast as cart horses, one trick ponies and generally weak as piss.

  • Like when we went up from league 2, we needed tried and tested players from that specific division/level to deal with the task in hand. Doyle and Sarcs etc. We need exactly the same in this divis

Imagine our new Swede as a bit of Wilhelmsson's hocus pocus and Elmanders' Wolves turn in him

Too many is the answer lusty because it’s pretty clear they can’t all play. It’s unclear yet whether Ceesay is being signed as a defensive midfielder or a left back and to be fair similar with Taylor, central defender of left back? With Johnston, Inwood and possibly (hopefully) Conway competing for left side places there’s questions all over the pitch.

I wonder if they’ll all go to Spain next week or some who know they’re going will stay behind to work on deals. I can’t believe discussions haven’t been had and players all know where they stand. With everybody back to pre season now, clubs and players will want to be getting deals finalised so we should be getting clues shortly. We’ve had plenty rumours and perceived bids for targets to come in but I’ve yet to here of any of our contracted linked to going out anywhere!

Some of the contracted players may not go anywhere for a while. They may want to see how much of pre season they play, whether their face fits, what offers they have, and whether they are included in the squad for the season.

They are on good contracts at Bolton (which in most cases won't be matched elsewhere), so the power is in their hands. Doesn't mean they won't leave, but also means it won't happen quickly.

You're right though. One or two may be left behind next week as a not so subtle message about where they stand. Equally, a club will struggle to sell an unfit player with no pre season minutes. It's complicated!

Yes Bells it is complicated and it’s always difficult to move players on who are on good contracts and in a comfortable place. As you say a few may stick around to try and impress the boss and they may succeed if they get their act together but I’d think they all know where they stand and some will I’m sure know they’re not going to play. If they still want to stay that’s up to them but I’d think any normal player would prefer to be playing and move on. I’m sure discussions have been held in good spirits so hopefully the players will respect that and do what’s necessary,
