July 11, 20233 yr It's an absolute fucking disgrace that the board haven't spent big to replace two players who weren't even ours with even better players.

Playing devil's advocate but we could say Baxter is experienced and played loads of Championship games, Trafford's a kids who's never played above L1, so its an upgrade. Anyway let's assess that after a few games, same with Cogley, nobody knows yet.

Until we've seen the new lad we don't know. Plus, even if he isn't as good as Traf, we can't afford to buy someone who is, given he's now become a mulit-million pound signing. Bonkers way of thinking.

Don’t think many would say he was . Baxter certainly be a better keeper at present Edited July 11, 20233 yr by Farnywhite

Im suggesting that Traf is a better goalie, unless Burnley like spunking 19 million away?
July 11, 20233 yr We can't pay that sort of money, so your point is meaningless. Even if it does technically weaken us, there is nothing we can do about it. The lad from Chelsea might also have a great season and also move to the Premier league in a year or two's time- no one knows. You could say the same thing whenever any club sells or loses a top player to someone higher up, but clubs move on and replace with someone else. The way of things.
July 11, 20233 yr Is it not possible to think we are weaker but also accept we are a good few weeks to go yet. our squad was weakened in January with poor strikers imo. I get theory of adding size but they offered nothing. traf and Bradley going are big losses but there is no reason the new keeps and full back won’t be good for the team. Having to use multiple outlets may even help the side. we’ve not been linked with anyone I’ve heard of so not concerned when we don’t sign them. Trust the process. If it doesn’t work / we start badly folk can be pissed off. I don’t understand why we don’t just play matches within the team for fitness then a few competitive friendlies. Was Johnstone sticking on a contract or happy to sign ? If he was sticking on it I feel for him as it sounds a bad one

It's surely relevant that at the end of their respective loan spells one has gone to the Premier League as one of the most expensive goalkeepers of all time, and the other has signed for us on a free. Look, on paper he's about as good as we could hope for, but it's surely time to stop digging when it comes to Trafford's abilities.

Anyone quoting losing “a £19m player” - what difference does that make, unless we spend £20m on a keeper then it’s always going to be the case, he was a failed Accy Stan keeper before he came to us. The other we still haven’t replaced. Any mention of losing MJ, Lee etc. is pointless - it’s our decision because they weren’t good enough and they generally didn’t play. We’ve lost Johnston to injury but gained Iredale (who I’m still convinced is a better fit for a LCB in our system but completely an unproven theory). We’ve got rid of Kachunga but have JDB back. AND STILL WE HAVE A MONTH AND A HALF OF A TRANSFER WINDOW LEFT. It’s like being halfway through building a house and someone going “that looks shit”. Well yeah, its not finished it yet, it’s not even got a roof or windows for fuck sake, what a stupid comment. Come back when it’s finished and then see what you think. Off season is mad, bring on Lincoln and people can start moaning about our keeper passing to our centre backs again. I do wonder what people expect to see when they come on a messageboard about a football club in July. Lock the forum and everyone come back after 10 games?

Nothing matters, we are having a great pre season? My point is, at present, which i have stressed all along, we are weaker than last season. Thats it really!

I know this is splitting hairs but I keep hearing 19 mil and its only that if he achieves X, Y and Z. Could be champions league qualification or 50 England caps. 14 mil is still an incredible fee but its not 19. Clearly Trafford's going to have a decent career and has great potential, but its not a given that he's better than championship standard keepers right now. He simply hasn't been tested, but good luck to him (if not Burnley), he's obviously a great lad with the right attitude.

Lock the forum and everyone come back after 10 games? At least some rationality. Talk about transfers, discuss where we could improve, be excited by potential signings, be pissed off when we miss out on one - just don’t lose perspective and use missing out on a couple of seemingly strong targets to have a go at Markham / Evatt et al. because it makes no sense at all and so ruins any chance of reasonable discussion about a football club in July.

Look, on paper he's about as good as we could hope for, but it's surely time to stop digging when it comes to Trafford's abilities. Hull signed Karl Darlow while Baxter was injured, no disgrace being 2nd choice to him. Why did Kieran Lee, Santos, Dapo, John, MJ, Jones etc end up playing in the bottom half of L2? It happens for loads of reasons, injuries being one which is one reason we got Lee, and probably Baxter. Darlow was the next England No 1 once too (huge move to Newcastle). Jack Butland was another that was the next No 1, it happens, its nobody's fault, but I say its far too soon to say Trafford, or any other 19 year old, will be Prem standard for years to come. Not sure what you mean about digging, just chat and opinions about Bolton players.
July 11, 20233 yr I don't want Trafford to sign for Burnley, because I'd like the lad to be successful.
July 12, 20233 yr Its basically a fancy loan to aid FFP isnt it Work with Citys future manager for a bit and we will give you your 19m back next season.

July 12, 20233 yr Wish him all the best. Very reliable player for us. Hoping one out means one in shortly
July 12, 20233 yr As important as anyone in our promotion from L2, to the point it was a disaster if he wasn’t available. We’ve moved on, he’s not quite mobile enough to play centre mid in our current set up and shouldn’t be considered as a back up centre back (although to his credit did a cracking job when needed last season). It’s a perfect example of the continuous improvement in the squad but he’ll do well at MK and will be fondly remembered for his part in the revival.
